UPDATE 10 PM: Michele Bachmann has received an apology from NBC over the song choice flap during her appearance on the network’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Monday when the show’s house band performed the 1985 Fishbone song Lyin’ Ass Bitch while she was walking out on stage. The apology was made in a personal letter from NBC’s VP late night Doug Vaughan. According to Bachmann’s spokeswoman Alice Stewart cited by the AP, Vaughan wrote that the incident was “not only unfortunate but also unacceptable.” She said Vaughn offered his sincerest apologies and said the band had been “severely reprimanded.”
PREVIOUS 11 AM: The controversy over Late Night With Jimmy Fallon‘s choice of the 1985 Fishbone song Lyin’ Ass Bitch as intro music for guest Michele Bachmann shows no signs of subsiding. Conservative bloggers started the campaign on Tuesday morning, right after the show aired Monday night. 
Last night, Fallon apologized to the presidential candidate over the phone and via Twitter. “I’m honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I’m so sorry about the intro mess,” Fallon wrote on Twitter. “I really hope she comes back.” Appearing on Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom this morning, Bachmann said that she accepts the comedian’s apology but insisted that the network that aired the broadcast, NBC, should apologize too. “If that had been Michelle Obama, who’d come out on the stage, and if that song had been played for Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her and likely they would have fired the drummer, or at least suspended him,” Bachmann said. “None of that happened from NBC. And this is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite, but it’s also, I think, sexism as well. This wouldn’t be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama; it shouldn’t be tolerated if it’s a conservative woman either.” So far, the only disciplinary measure toward Questlove, the drummer of Late Night‘s house band The Roots reportedly responsible for the song choice, came in a form of a tweet from Fallon yesterday, “?uestLove is grounded.” Bachmann on Tuesday received support from an unlikely ally, Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey. “The choice of song to introduce Michele Bachmann on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night was insulting and inappropriate,” she said in a statement. “I do not share Michele Bachmann’s politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect. No female politician — and no woman — should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night. The Roots, Jimmy Fallon, and NBC should apologize.”

Young Magnet High School in Chicago and was the salutatorian of the Class of 1981. She graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University and earned a Juris Doctor Degree from Harvard University Law School.
She mentored Barack Obama at the Sidley Austin Law Firm where she first worked after graduating from Harvard. Michelle Obama’s credentials go on and on. Clearly she is a well-educated woman with a great deal of academic intellect.

What was most stupid about the interview was that fallon asked her NOTHING about her policy pronouncements or qualifications. Every interview of a Presidential candidate ought to test them. These are the only times we get to see them before voting. They have no other purpose when running than to respond to hard questioning. I can’t’ believe they think, in the age of Palin, Bachmann, Cain and Perry, that they should be able to have questions out of bounds..

This is a talk-show, not a political convention. If the guest can’t take a joke, go back to wherever he/she came from. This isn’t pre-school. If the republicans hadn’t become such right-wing nutjobs, you wouldn’t be such easy targets for comedians and people with a sense of humor.

Bachmann is a member of Congress and she came on Fallon’s show as a “guest.” Thus the question becomes is this how you treat a guest? No, of course not. This isn’t Punk’d. I would have agreed with you until about six months ago. The fact is, politics and Congress, of which Bachmann is a member, has sunk to new lows. The failure of the GOP to compromise on ANYTHING has destroyed trillions in American wealth. Bachmann’s far right, ridiculous views are symptomatic of the Tea Party’s divisive influence that has created total gridlock in congress and threatens to destroy the country.

When has Michelle Bachmann ever stood up to defend other female political figures that have faced scorn and mockery? In the past week two of Bachmann’s heros, Limbaugh and Beck, have called Michelle Obama “uppity.” Crickets from the Bachmann camp.
Perhaps this moment will be an opportunity for Bachmann to become more sensitive about her own ugly rhetoric and her steadfast support for people that regularly malign female politicians. When you invite someone, when you are their host, your job is to treat them as well and make them as comfortable as possible. If thats the best that Kimmel and Co could do then shame on them. The host (who’s not Jimmy Kimmel, incidentally) didn’t make the joke, even though he apologized for it. The bandleader did. Given his apparent opinion of Michele Bachmann (an opinion she’s absolutely earned given her actions and statements), I doubt he was consulted on whether she should be on the show. Regardless, he’s been reprimanded for his actions. So: the host apologized, and the offending drummer’s been penalized. The only reason for Bachmann to continue whining is a cynical drive to manipulate her supporters into giving her more money.
