Tarsem Singh’s Immortals chalked up an estimated $1.4 million in Thursday midnight screenings in roughly 900 locations. Frequently compared with 300, Immortals shares a couple of producers on that movie — Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari. It’s also of interest because it offers a look at Henry Cavill, who in addition to playing the mortal Theseus in Relativity’s movie has been cast as the Man of Steel in Warner Bros’ reboot of Superman. It’ll be interesting to see how well Immortals lives up to its title as the day and the weekend progress.

London Boulevard should have been released a year ago and it is a disgrace that not only has it been needlessly delayed but it is only getting a limited release. It has a stellar cast (Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley, Ray Winstone, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Ben Chaplin) and shouldn’t go unnoticed by the public now.
I think Leonardo will surely get a nomination for an Academy Award for J. Edgar at least. He is incredible and he is amazing. And I think he will get it. It’s an incredible performance, just wonderful.
Great relevant post to this article. Well done.
Some context for this number: today is a school holiday as well as a day off for a lot of people, so that had to inflate the potential audience for midnight shows.
Even if “Immortals” tanks, Henry Cavill looks fantastic in the movie and seems like he could make for a compelling Superman.
But his performance was atrocious. His accent was all over the place. Sure nobody cares about the acting in a Zack Snyder movie. He just has to pose while Zack add the pretty lights around him, so Superman should be OK. But damn. Cavill is a terrible terrible actor.
I don’t know if it was just the way they cut the trailer, but when I saw it months ago, I thought it looked way too cheesy. Hope it’s better than that trailer.
I really loved the film a lot better than 300 and whenever the Gods were fighting… it was amazing
wow! this is huge for them. impressive.
Is $1.4million a lot? Is that a significant opening for a movie like this, in November? Did PUSS IN BOOTS have midnight showings?
loved this movie. funny, it does 1.4 million and that is only so-so, but MI4 with 1.1 is supposed to be a win. Whatever.
