It’s shocking Senna is not there.
Hey Academy – someone released the wrong list as I don’t see SENNA anywhere.
WOW. No Corman’s World? That movie is awesome! How did Undefeated make the short list?
Fail on this list, Academy!
Are you kidding? This isn’t the Sarah Palin documentary. This Undefeated captures the most unexpected and beautiful story of the year in the story of the Manassas Tigers. So happy to see it made the cut.
It’s also shocking that the acclaimed doc film “GRANITO: How to Nail a Dictator” by award-winner director Pamela Yates didn’t make the cut. Very disappointing… http://skylightpictures.com/films/granito/
I and many others amazed Pamela Yates’ Granito, the powerful story of violence and memory in Guatemala, is not on this list. It should have been. What an error, and a shame.
Jim Whitaker’s incredible documentary, REBIRTH, should be on this list. Such an amazing piece and a real tribute to 9-11 victims.
Senna was the single most compelling Doc I’ve ever seen. I knew nothing about the subject and went with my husband and was drawn into this masterful movie. I was moved, and will never forget it. I feel it’s tragic that it’s not on the list.
I am Shocked and disappointed that CORMANS WORLD did not make the cut!
More evidence that “Hollywood” is out of touch. So many GREAT independent documentaries can’t qualify because of the Academy’s ridiculous NY-LA theatrical screening requirement.
After all that speculation that Senna was ineligible, followed by confirmation that’s eligible, it somehow falls off the list anyway.
Ah, Mysteries of the Academy…
Corman’s World got hosed!
It is disappointing that CORMAN’S WORLD didn’t even make the short list. It makes you wonder if they even watched the films.
Let’s hope that SENNA is not on this list as its only eligible as a FOREIGN FILM !!
SENNA DESERVES THE WIN!!
I tend to agree with the above.. how is Senna not on this list? It’s insanity.
I also miss that ‘Beats, Rhymes & Life’ never got enough credit.
Bravo to the Academy from recognizing Undefeated and Buck. Both are remarkable films.
Two Herzog docs out in 2011 and NEITHER film gets recongnised?!
What happen with GRANITO?
so sad!
Some obvious omissions here (Senna, The Interrupters) + a few bizarre inclusions. Par for the course I guess. But I’m pulling for We Were Here, Pina, If a Tree Falls, Project Nim and Buck. All very deserving IMHO. I haven’t seen or heard of several of them, though.
Steve James snubbed again. First, for Hoop Dreams, and now, The Interrupters. Bravo to the Academy! You show yourself to be even more out of touch the second time around.
No Senna????? Incredible. Truly incredible.
Glad to see Paradise Lost 3 was shortlisted. I saw it and it’s an amazing movie that completely stands on it’s own, but also it’s the final of three documentaries by two masters of the form who have never been recognized by the Academy and it resulted in three wrongfully convicted men getting out of jail. Senna was great and the Interrupters really should have been on the list though!
What?! No BEING ELMO?!
no senna, cormans world, being elmo, and the island president.
Interesting to see all of the oscar hopefuls are posting their comments here.
Corman’s world? Are you serious? Not Oscar worthy at all. A half descent TV doc….but Oscar?
Steve James did get hosed again.
This is a pretty bizarre list. But then again, it usually is.
Glad to see ‘We Were Here’ listed…an amazing documentary not seen by enough people.
