EXCLUSIVE: The Full Monty helmer Peter Cattaneo is in talks to direct Bridget Jones’s Baby, the Universal Pictures/Working Title sequel that brings back Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. Shooting begins early next year. The directing assignment has been open since early October, when Bridesmaids helmer Paul Feig stepped away after working on the most recent script draft. At the time, the feeling was that the Helen Fielding novels and film series has an inherently British sensibility that made it better suited for a British helmer. Cattaneo fits that bill and has been circling the project for some time. Fielding wrote the script with Feig and David Nicholls. Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing with Little Bird Films’ Jonathan Cavendish. Cattaneo is repped by UTA and UK-based Independent Talent Group.

Gee, the first two installments were so bad-why would they think we needed yet another one ?
I guess they’ll be working around Colin Firth’s schedule, because nobody else in this movie has a career any more. I’m surprised Colin is even doing it. They must be paying him a lot for just a few days work.
A bit of a hater are you? Have you ever seen these movies. They are actually really good. Step outside your walls for a second. You never know what great stuff you’re missing.
Is there some pent-up demand for this movie that I am unaware of? I mean, the first one was great, but the second was gawd-awful. And Renee hasn’t been a star in at least seven years. Why are they bothering?
I’m not prepared to kick Renee down the road just yet, but I agree: the second BJ was just terrible! It pretty much killed my appetite for all things Bridget Jones. Therefore I’m thoroughly puzzled why anyone thinks we need another installment? I mean lemme guess…BJ has some new relationship issues, weight creeping back up, and then finds herself in all sorts of new (old?) uninteresting muddles. Zzzzz.
Or is this just another way of capitalzing on Firth’s newfound marketability and legion of rabid fans? Kinda what I’m thinking.
Rene Zelweger is proof positive that some women look better with a full fugure. Her face never recovered from the extreme weight loss of Chicago…. Or are there othet Kathy Griffin type reasons for that????
I’m saving my money for the Jones baby/Focker baby crossover. Now that’s comedy effing gold.
Renee’s a great and versatile actress. She’s also an amazing and generous person.

Cattaneo’s incredibly underrated and a wonderful guy. He’s got smart instincts and will direct a hell of a movie. I couldn’t be happier for him.
i love Renee…don’t kick her to the curve…the first movie was great (ok so i’m a woman, read the books, and really enjoyed them). Of course the second film was not very good (but it followed the book’s script)..i am wiling to give the third movie a try..for Renee and Colin, you bet…even Hugh is passable in this series..
Didn’t love BJ2, but the first was great and Renee is an amazing actress. Her versatility comes through in the roles she’s picked. Hugh and Firth are comedy. Let’s hope they all pull of a third.

The first movie was great! It is my opinion that Beeban Kidron ruined the 2nd movie with her horrendous direction. I just want to have at least ONE positive comment about a 3rd movie. I love the characters and I’m a Colin fan, so anything with him in it is worth watching, but I’d like to actually enjoy the movie, too! So I want this to be made and I hope this Peter Cattaneo does a great job! Please!
