Following its surprisingly strong debut against Game 7 of the World Series last week, NBC’s new fairytale-themed drama Grimm (1.8/5 in 18-49, 5.92 million viewers) dropped a modest 14% in its second airing. It won the 9 PM hour in the demo and ranked as the second-highest-rated program of the night behind the CBS drama Blue Bloods. Things looked much gloomier for NBC’s departing dramedy Chuck (0.8/3, 3.1 million), which was the lowest-rated and least-watched program on the Big 4 — down 20% in the demo from its season premiere last week for a new series low. Dateline (1.2/4, 4.1 million) closed out the night for NBC, down a tenth from last week.
Grimm seems to be hurting CSI: NY in the 9 PM slot. The veteran CBS crime drama (1.6/5, 9.7 million) was down 11% in 18-49 from its last original two weeks ago. Blue Bloods (2.1/6, 12.6 million) posted season highs, up a big 24% from the fast national for its last original. (Blue Bloods is usually adjusted up in the finals.) This was the cop family drama’s second-best 18-49 and total viewer result behind the series’ September 2010 premiere. Blue Bloods was the top program Friday and helped CBS (1.6/5, 10.2 million) win the night despite another soft outing by rookie A Gifted Man (1.2/4, even, 8.4 million), which didn’t make a strong case for a back order. (But it may get a partial one anyway.)
Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares (1.5/5) and Fringe (1.3/4) were both up a tenth from their most recent episodes. ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition rebounded from having to face the conclusion of the World Series last week; the 8 PM episode (1.2/4) was up 20%, the 9 PM one (1.4/4) was up 27%. At 10 PM, 20/20 (1.1/3) was down a tenth. The CW’s Nikita and Supernatural held steady.

A gift from CBS would be to cancel Gifted Man and replace it with static.
Ha! Funny. A gift from NBC would be if they gave GRIMM a better lead-in than a show whose numbers this new show has week to week DOUBLED. think how much better it would be if paired with Awake or something. Poor Grimm. They got a dumb night (I love the show and even I DVR it) with an even dumber pairing. that show would SOAR with a different pairing. At least NBC can now say they have one certifiable hit on their hands (because it wins in the demo and is second highest rated show of night… not overall numbers. although who knows when Live + 7 comes in NBC may have huge reason to rejoice).
Yeah, paring it up with Chuck (whose ratings granted cancellation several seasons ago) and sticking it on Fridays (Fringe and Supernatural) was a bad decision. I hope that they get their schedule right come mid-season and stick Grimm on a better night with a better lead-in, when all the other interesting shows come into the picture. I just hope they give the show a chance, because it’s really interesting and probably the best show NBC has had in a while (ratings-wise especially).
Undercover boss should be in that slot!
I’m amazed that NBC has kept Chuck on the air for so long. It started out as a cute show, but ran out of steam 2-3 seasons ago. It really shows how weak NBC’s lineup is that they’ve been forced to keep under performing shows on their schedule year after year.
Well, NBC gave Chuck one last season of 13 episodes. Looks like the creative forces behind the show have chosen to squander that enormous gift.
love GRIMM. such a fun show
I agree! it’s so fun. good numbers even though they had not that much advertising (that I saw anyway) this week. except wednesday night the lead girl Bitsie Tulloch on Ferguson late show – she killed it btw – maybe Fergy was just in the mood but it was one of the funniest late night interviews i’ve ever seen.
Happy you could take the time to post Todd Millner! But jeez, how many times did you post today?
I’m very happy “fringe” was up-even just a little bit. Hopefully, the #’s will rise the rest of the season,or,at least-remain steady. “Fringe” is an amazingly good program & it truly blows my mind as to why more people aren’t watching it. I hope fox airs the complete season it has ordered. Even though I tend to be a pessimist- somewhere in my mind & in my heart I am hoping a miracle takes place & we are blessed with a 5th season. Thank you.
Grimm 2nd episode even better than pilot. Keep it up!
And Chuck was so damn good last night. At this point I’m just hoping they don’t pull it.
Thank you for your post. After the season opener, which was awful (sorry), I almost gave up on the show. But I went back to watch after your post, and loved Friday’s show.
For those who wonder why we fans stay loyal, you gotta love a show that can give you lines like: “I wound up with a nasty scar right over one of my favorite scars.”
For those who think Internet copyright violations are a bad thing. Yeah, well, Friday night’s episode wasn’t up on Hulu when I wanted to watch it. So I “found” it online. What was the terrible result? My loyalty to the show is now renewed.
PLEASE GET A CLUE: Internet viewing is here to stay. We’re either going to do it at legal sites where you get to put in commercials and make money, as you should, or we’re going to do it at illegal sites, where you’re going to get screwed. (If you think that anti-streaming legislation is going to save you, you don’t know shit about geeks.) Please, for your own sakes, put shows online immediately, so you can make the money you deserve for your work. Some of us no longer own television sets–the Internet is the ONLY way you and your advertisers can reach us. We actually do appreciate capitalism, but we’ve begun to wonder if Hollywood does…
I am keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t cancel Grimm. I think it has great potential and I LOVE off beat (quirky). Having said that, they will probably cancel it on me.
Grimm is an inferior Supernatural ripoff. And those little bits of when a Grimm can see a transformation? Awful.
And it’s not quirky. It’s boring.
seems to be many people disagree with you based on the fact that Grimm won the demo and was second-highest rated program of the night. I for one jumped ship. I don’t like this season of Supernatural that much
I wouldn’t watch Grimm on Hulu.
Your bias is showing. You come off like a demented SPN fan who can’t stand it if others want to see something different.
I really love the Gifted man. I shows that the heart can always be reached, if handled properly.
and no one has mentioned “Once upon a time” I may be old but I still love my fairy tales! I think it’s great.
I agree! Give “Gifted Man” a chance. I think it really has a chance to blossom. Patrick Wilson really makes the show.
Once Upon a Time is a better show than Grimm is.
No, no it isn’t.
Yes, yes it is.
Yes, it is.
Fairy tales are for children. Yes, they are.
Yeah it is. But it’s not like they’re in competing timeslots and even if they were, my DVR can record 2 at a time, so it’s not a very useful comparison.
Gifted man has Struggled, but could become a truly great show.
Once upon a Time is old news.
I don’t disagree with you that I too feel Once Upon A Time is a better show than Grimm but that doesn’t mean Grimm still isn’t good/enjoyable.
I hope NBC sees they have an actual hit on their hands with Grimm and they move it to a better night where it can find more viewers. The show is already suffering but the terrible be lead of the please put it out of it’s misery Chuck that’s dying a very slow death.
I agree with Jim, Once Upon a Time is a really great show. Grimm is just a cop proceedural masquerading as a fairy tale.
I’m liking Gifted Man less and less. Last night’s treated the dead wife as an after thought, not part of the story. I guess it isn’t the male ghost whisperer after all.
Well, The X Files 1st season had some boring proceedural episodes too. So, I hope that Grimm can improve. Luckily NBC has Bob Greenblatt at the helm who developed the X Files at Fox.
I like Gifted Man — it’s different. Not your typical “doctor” drama. The humbling experiences — thanks, in part, to his ghostly ex-wife — make the main character more likeable. I would say it’s supernatural in a “natural” way.
It’s not action-packed, but give it time, it could grow on you.
Yes, yes it is.
The first epi of Grimm was entertaining; the Goldilocks one? Not so much. In fact, it was downright boring. And the transformations look very cheap. I know a couple of motion graphic guys who could make better looking transformations using AfterEffects and MacBookPros in about an hour!
That’s nice spin. Grimm dropped big from week one. Let’s see if it drops again. If it does next week it will a short run.
People, if you’re going to reply to a post, then please click “REPLY TO THIS POST”!
Which post are you replying to?
I hear you, Magilla, but it turns out if you reply on a mobile device*, as I assume a lot of people do, “Reply to this post” doesn’t work as it should. Instead of being directly under the post, the reply winds up in chronological order on the regular list.
*I don’t know if that’s the case for all mobile devices, but it’s what happens when I use my Android phone.
I was a huge fan of Chuck, but with Morgan as the new Intersect, I’ve lost all interest. Honestly it should have ended a season and a half ago when Chuck and Sarah finally got together, and Chuck learned to control his abilities consistently. Since then, they have spent way too much time and energy on side characters, and thats hurt the brand overall. I’m sure NBC will wind up burning off episodes by bundling them up during the holidays, the same way Fox did with Human Target last year.
I liked “Grimm” the first time I saw it…when it was called “Kolchak: The Night Stalker.”
“Blue Bloods” is as dumb as a pot roast…yet, there’s no getting past the likeability of Tom Selleck…
Selleck is great in the Jesse Stone series of TV movies. Unfortunately, the writing and plot lines for Blue Bloods suck!
I actually think it is the best show on TV. To each their own!
Love it too.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! I love pot roast!
Tom Selleck is pure awesomeness.
I agree. He’s my bear daddy.
Tom Selleck is a stone cold fox.
It won’t be too long before NBC decides to air Chuck on burn off Saturdays as that show is absolutely getting crushed in the ratings. Just two seasons too long for this show to have aired.
Problem is, NBC doesn’t have anything else to put in their place on Friday night. At least Chuck has somewhat of a fan base, where a new show would have to start from scratch. Actually, Comcast should just complete their takeover changes and completely reboot NBC. That’s about their only hope at this point. Keep their top 5 shows and can all the rest. They can do it during the upcoming holiday break and start the new year with a new network.
