After Halloween festivities pushed TV usage and ratings down last Monday, most series rebounded last night. Fox’s family-friendly Terra Nova (2.6/6 in adults 18-49), which was hit hardest by trick-or-treating, posted the biggest week-to-week gain, 24%. House (2.7/6) was up 8%. (The two dramas also led all series in Live+3 increases for their Halloween episodes, up 48%.) Fox finished third for the night in 18-49.
Topping the night in that demo was CBS (4.0/10 in 18-49, 11.4 million viewers). How I Met Your Mother (4.4/12) and 2 Broke Girls (4.5/11) were both up 7% from their fast nationals last week, Two And A Half Men (5.1/12) was up 9% to rank as the top program of the night in the demo, and Mike & Molly was up 11%. Hawaii Five-0 (3.0/8) was up a tenth from its fast national, flat with the final.
ABC’s Dancing With The Stars (3.3/8) was up a big 21% from last week’s series performance low to post the highest-rated and most-watched performance edition since the season premiere. Meanwhile, Castle, the only series to buck the downward trend on Halloween with a 21% ratings increase, once again swam against current, down 14% from its fast national last Monday. ABC (3.1/8, 15.8 million) was No. 1 for the night in total viewers and second to CBS in 18-49.
Monday Night Football on ESPN also rebounded, posting a 11.7 metered market average, up 34% from last week and 17% from the corresponding game last year. Then we have NBC, which didn’t move the needle: The Sing-Off (1.4/3) was flat with last Monday as was Rock Center With Brian Williams (1.0/3), which didn’t get a bump from the 30 Rock crossover (series creator/star Tina Fey was a guest), matching its underwhelming series premiere last week. NBC finished tied for fourth place in 18-49 with Univision. The CW’s Gossip Girl (1.3 million, 0.6/1) was on par with its last original two weeks ago, while Hart Of Dixie (1.4 million, 0.6/1) fell 25% from its series high the same Monday.

Brian Williams is horrible. He is smug and thinks he’s “comedy gold.” He’s not funny and he is not a celebrity. He is a news reader. Cancel Rock Center and put us all out of our misery. Please Mr. Comcast.
I love him!
Keep that midnight oil burning, Brian. You’re a pro — and you’re comedy gold. A double threat.
Brian, is that you?
Your judgment is fried, Yen. Brian Williams is sincere, smart AND funny. You probably don’t like Bill Cosby either.
Brian Williams is likable but a news magazine show has no business being on Monday night.
Move it to Friday and bring Grimm to Monday night.
They really should move CHUCK back to Mondays where it will do wayyy better than it is doing on Fridays and they should move Rock Center to Friday where it really belongs..
Chuck doesn’t really need to do better, it’s the final season. And if you think back, Chuck really didn’t do too well on Mondays either.
Terra Nova is a good show, Dean Geyer could be a break out star.
Terra Nova being family friendly is correct, The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has more edge than that boring show.
I watched the episode last night and they turned that badass from Avatar into a second rate action man. He couldn’t take some thug down when he is a military field commander who’s trained to kill people. Yet, the cop was a better fighter than him. Yeah, right! Who’s running this show a bunch of idiots who are clueless.
This show proves what level James Cameron is at when it comes to doing his homework and everything else.
Also, that cop is as boring as hell. He has no personality. The kids are superficial and stereotypical.
With all those creative minds on the show this is the best they can come up with. I get the feeling they are all phoning in the creative process.
It’s time is counting down unless they change up the characters and stupid story.
Where the hell is Spielberg in all this? No wonder James Cameron kicked Spielberg out of the number one and two spot for top box office movies. I would rather watch The Vampire Diaries. Vampire Diaries may be a chick show but at least on that show the characters aren’t like a Saturday morning cartoon. All those great producers from Star Trek and Spielberg yet Terra Nova makes me want to puke.
Terra Nova is a flop.
What the hell happened here?
Someone needs to get fired.
This is still good news for Two and a Half Men episode 8 was really funny and the story keeps getting better and better. You Rock Chuck Lorre.
Tried watching Rock Center again last night, and it was just boring. The stories weren’t interesting, and Williams isn’t charismatic enough to hold viewer interest.
I can’t stand Brian Williams. He’s nothing more than a “news” reader and unofficial White House spokesperson. I refuse to watch anything produced by NBC News or MSNBC they are devoid of journalistic integrity.
Bri-Wi is genuinely talented, funny, and professional. I love seeing him on 30 Rock, Late Night, or any other entertainment venue.
Unfortunately, the show “Rock Center” is ill-conceived (and poorly titled). It reeks of NBC’s cost-cutting fiasco two years ago, when Jeff Zucker argued that shows that are cheaper to produce (reality, news, variety) don’t need high ratings to be profitable. That’s how we ended up with the Jay Leno Show, as well as a whole bunch of angry affiliates with plummeting newscast ratings.
There was no demand for another news magazine on a broadcast network. That’s wishful thinking, like when bike lanes replace car lanes. People expect entertainment during all three prime-time hours. Newsies already watch their 24-hour news networks of choice — they’re not waiting around for Monday, 10 PM.
NBCUniversal should attempt these kinds of experiments on their wide portfolio of cable outlets, then maybe showcase them on the network if they show potential.
Come on blaming Jeff Zucker for the failure of Rock Center is BS. Jeff would never have put Rock Center on in this incarnation. Jeff is a better producer than that. Hell, ever Jon Stewart seemed pained. Cancel it. Bri-WI is much better reading from tele-prompter.
Patrick- You are spot on
2 and a half men is still living on sheen. That episode was all about sheen. Its still his show. The brother did need to greive but the writers flop without sheen. He is the point of reference
Gee, what a surprise. Yet another bad clunker of a show on NBC with Rock center. This show is just horrible and brian Williams thinks he can turn anything into gold news-wise. newsflash brian…you can’t. This show is just time filler until NBC can somehow and someway put something constructive into the slot…how about bringing back Las Vegas? Trust me…it’ll do very well.
Just get to writing the “Hannibal” series, and try to make the character interesting…kinda like if Hugh Laurie and John Noble od’d on Vicodin and LSD and successfully mated.
ROCK’s ratings are God’s way of zapping NBC for prematurely axing PLAYBOY CLUB instead of moving it to Fridays where it belonged.
