This red-band trailer for the R-rated hockey comedy Goon is as rowdy as the rating suggests. Magnolia/Magnet picked up the movie — directed by Michael Dowse with Seann William Scott, Liev Schreiber and Jay Baruchel — at the Toronto International Film Festival and according to the Magnet website plans a March theatrical release preceded by video-on-demand in February.

sold! I’m in!
Do they really see some advantage to doing VOD releases before theatrical? Every movie that does this ends up pirated and widely available online on the first day of VOD, and that has to hurt the theatrical potential.
I so need this film!
The last scene with the blood on the glass is very, very funny.
This looks very funny. Don’t get the VOD thing, though. This looks like it could be a theatrical hit.
Some old time Hockey! I’m fucking in. Cannot say anything other than I’m super stoked this movie got fucking made, eh? Plus it’s got uber-serious Schrieber in it so you know it can’t suck!
logic says they don’t think that many people will see this in the theaters.
my guess is that magnolia/magnet is using this as a guinea pig of a movie to see if there’s any vod business prior to theatrical release.
3 nhl fighters/goons died in the last 6 months. this can’t be good for hockey.
oh right, what’s hockey?
After this, will there be any need for Kevin Smith’s two-part movie extravaganza about a hockey goon?
Of course not, but don’t tell the delusional Mr. Smith.
Looks hilarious! Hockey fights are so great — two guys can whale on each other and then sit in time-out for 5 minutes (instead of going to jail like in the real world.)
Wow, this actually looks really, really funny.
SWS is an underated comedy actor. He plays the a hole part to perfection. The American Pie films never would have had a sequel if you removed the Stiffler chrachter.
They need to scrap the VOD idea though. This film has mainstream box office appeal.
When did Allison Pill get really cute? Because suddenly she is.
uhh, OK.
Let’s say hypothetically I’m not a hockey fan…do I have any motivation to want to see this? SWS’s character appears to be a bit of a dimbulb and a thug. (and not much of an actual hockey player either) Does he have any redeeming features?
Is there anything to this movie other than lots of fighting and drinking?
I’m not a hockey fan and I think this film looks hilarious. And I like the idea that the lead appears to have no redeeming features. So what’s your point?
I’m just happy the guy isn’t dressed in spandex and fighting off otherword bad guys with his CGI special effects powers. This movie looks like a welcome relief from all the cookie cutter crap that Hollywood has been dumping on us lately.
Looks cool to me. But why did we have to watch an AD before we could watch an AD for a movie? Weird.

For the same reason non golfers love Happy Gilmore. The psort really doesn’t have much to do with it if its a funny movie
