Regis Philbin’s last day on Live! With Regis & Kelly on Friday delivered a boisterous 7.3 rating/23 share in the metered markets. It capped six weeks of ratings growth for the daytime syndicated talk show leading into Regis’ grand finale. For comparison, the final epsode of Oprah Winfrey’s daytime show in May posted a 11.7/27 but TV usage in the afternoon is higher than in the morning when Live! airs, and unlike with Oprah, this is not the end of the show but the Philbin era on it. (Live! continued today with Kelly Ripa and first guest host Jerry Seinfeld.) On Friday, Live! was No.1 in its time period in all metered markets except St. Louis and Memphis. Come on, St. Louis and Memphis, no love for Rege?!

GET A CO-HOST FAST. Kelly Ripa hit the iceberg this morning— an absolute no talent carried by Philbin. IF they drag out the contest they will be out of a show as the ratings will just die. PLEASE, do not bring in the no talent hubby as the show now should be called “the Titanic with Kelly”— ABANDON SHIP.
REALLY fun to listen to a ode to Dog shit for almost 15 minutes at 9 in the morning. Seinfield looked as uncomfortable as he was unfunny as Ripa just droned on and on and on. Career suicide. Where was Costanza when Jere needed him???
tot’z agree. even jerry had to force kelly to talk about something else.
jerry is woody allen funny in the best way. dont think this generation is witty enough to ‘get it.’ larry david and seinfeld are funny on the circuit and pre-recorded, but on live tv not as fresh. go fig.

Easy there Housewife McGee…
While I am a fan of Kelly’s, I have to agree with “Stunned” that this morning’s show with Jerry Seinfeld was horrific. I don’t put the blame entirely on Kelly, however, as Jerry’s brand of dry humor fell completely flat, and the lack of chemistry between them was obvious to all.
Kelly can do better — we’ve all seen her work well with guest co-hosts before, but Jerry was an unmitigated (and unfunny) disaster. She definitely needs a strong co-host who brings more balance to the show, someone who can pull her back when she goes off the rails (as she did with the dog cr*p). Regis often did that, though of course no one will ever replace him as he was unique. Still, I expect things will look much much brighter with NPH next week.
I’ll bite, what was #1 in St. Louis and Memphis?
Something just tells me her husband is going to get that gig.
Kelly looked like a deer caught in the headlights this morning. Jerry did a favor by toning it down in deference to her. He was actually the appealing one this morn. No worries though- she’ll find the balance in the end. She has a lot of people who are rooting for her.
Regis rules. She’s lame and Iger is a putz.
i have no idea why i feel this way, but i was ready for regis to leave the show years ago; i couldnt wait. he was no longer funny and just seemed to be grandfatherish in the worst way.
i felt the same with larry king and now with barbara walters. though she’s a living legend, i cringe when i see ms. walters heading to her seat on the view. the show is fresher when she’s on assignment.
i guess it seems their delivery style hasnt transitioned with this new era of celebrity and journalism. it’s probably more of an indictment on my own sensitivities than it is on theirs.

Regis keeps saying to Joy, ” I CAN”T BELIEVE THE BLUFF DID’T WORK. IT’S OUT OF CONTROL!!!”
Gelman keeps saying to staff, ” Who needs Reege? I’m the brains here and even with the Ripa broad I’ll keep this gravytrain on track!”
Kelly says to hubby, ” Don’t worry cabron, I’ll get you the gig. You’ve got to start earning some dinero cause I can’t keep keeping you!”
Iger says to affiliates, ” SHIT!”
I hope they don’t hire Consuelos. She may be very comfortable with him, but he’s not talk show material. That will be the end of the show for sure.
