Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions grabbed North American rights to Bel Ami, the Protagonist Pictures drama that stars Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci. Pattinson plays penniless ex-soldier Georges Duroy, who rises to power in Paris with ambition, power and seduction. Rachel Bennett adapted the Guy de Maupassant novel and Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod directed. Uberto Pasolini produced and Simon Fuller is exec producer.

saw this trailer a while back, and it looked pretty good. i’m happy for donnellan he is a great theater glad to see him get a chance to branch out.
FINALLY! Been waiting to see this for a while. The novel is one of my favorites.
I heard that this turned out pretty bad and Pattinsons agents were trying to bury it. Guess we’ll get to see why soon.
Anonymous, where did you hear this? Do you have inside industry sources? Don’ t hold on us. Please share.
I respect Donnellan as a theater director and for his sake I hope his film debut turns great.
From someone who has known Donnellan for a while. Through having to deal with difficult hollywood actresses (he is of course used to working with collaborative theatre actors) and a leading man not strong enough to carry the part let alone the film things didn’t go as smoothly as Declan would’ve hoped. Or so I heard.
So you have no inside or real information. You just want to put down the lead actor. Figures. By the way, the leading man held himself well in WFE according to most reviews.
Donnellan adored Rob. You do not know Donellan, at all.
Wow, this sounds totally legit, lol. We´ll talk again when the movie is out, ok?
Twitards have discovered deadline. God help us all!
we are following Robert not Twilight..you are a Jerk for saying that
Direct to video. Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous failing can’t have helped Bel Ami’s chances. What agency will take Uma Thurman now?
Tying this to AFM, really? Sony had a deal for this pic months ago.
Incorrect. Sony nor Sony Pictures Classics is the purchaser. Sony Worldwide Acquisitions is. It may or may not get released in the states. As of right now there are no plans. This one can’t have been cheap either. I’ve heard theories about Protagonist not being happy with the final product.
Let’s see it first before trash it okay. If Sony purchased it, someone had to believe it viable.
I wonder if this will be at the Berlinale. It would fit in pretty well.
