NBC’s Saturday Night Live returned from from a 2-week hiatus last night with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Charlie Day as host and Maroon 5 as musical guest. The show averaged a 4.9/11 in metered-market households, the best since SNL‘s second episode this season hosted by Melissa McCarthy with musical guest Lady Antebellum. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, last night’s SNL averaged a 2.8 rating/12 share in adults 18-49, a season high and the best result since May’s highly rated season finale with host Justin Timberlake and musical guest Lady Gaga. Here is SNL‘s take on Kim Kardashian’s divorce: Kim’s Fairytale Divorce Special. The show’s other memorable skits included a cold open with the ghost of Moammar Gadhafi and the Greek gods brainstorming solutions for the country’s financial crisis.

I don’t understand why Hollywood didn’t jump on Charlie Day after the success of Horrible Bosses. One supporting role in a Guillermo Del Toro sci fi film? That’s it?
Yeah, well Hollywood is not exactly currently known for doing anything right, so that should tell you something.
No offense intended but we had nothing to do with the creation of Hollywood. We are lucky we have movies to go see. They don’t owe us anything.
But erm isn’t it OUR money that erm, keeps on with jobs? You do understand what a customer is don’t you? You do UNDERSTAND the business concept of supplier and user? Hollywood is NOT a public sector like government, so we can’t just STFU. It’s a private business that takes OUR hard earned cash and I am sure gets government subsidies-hell, we will never see their true business model, so please, enough of the mindless worshipping.
Just like people who make fun of people who worship government, people who worship private business are if not as bad but even more irrational! Government can’t finanicially fail from us not using it’s services-it does that through dodgy investments-but Hollywood sure as hell can fail of we don’t go to the cinemas because they think another Ryan Reynolds movie is going to be a big hit!
That’s the first time I laughed at an SNL skit since the Tina Fey/Sarah Palin days.
Yeah that’s the only funny thing I’ve seen out of them in a while.
Tina Fey is over rated. I don’t find her funny at all.
Oh, you’re the one… and only.
I think that most people who are intelligent and understand comedy feel that Tina Fey is INSANELY overrated. SNL was horrible when she was head writer (as it still is now) and 30 Rock is mediocre at best. I will concede that her Palin impression was funny, but that was mostly due to the fact that the two bear a striking physical resemblance; all she basically did was put on a pantsuit and say “You Betcha”. I honestly can’t think of a more overrated comedian, ever.
You sound a little nutty. Try decaf.
You write like what’s funny or not funny can be broken down like a thesis for a term paper. Comedy is subjective, and to say the “intelligent” people who “understand comedy” tend to agree with you, that Tina Fey is insanely overrated, is such a cocky and bullshit statement. What overrated tends to mean is, “I don’t get this comedy and so many other people do; they must not be as enlightened as I am because surely I’m the last word on everything in the world around me.”

Thank you, cookmeyer70. Unfortunately, Bill H.’s attitude is the pervasive attitude of many current or up-and-coming comedy development execs in the industry. There isn’t ONE kind of comedy that appeals to ALL. That’s why there exists an array of comedic shows on the air both now and 40 years ago. Comedy is subjective. They should hand out common sense when they’re handing out ivy league degrees.
You state this as if it is fact. It is your opinion. Other than the Chevy Chase years, I liked the Tina Fey years. But whatever.
Great opening. Charlie Day is funny, although maybe a little specific.
That was some funny @#$#!
We better not hear the Mom complaining on the Today Show anytime soon.
If you put yourself out there, be willing to take it.
Looks like DH got the message about posting countless SNL skits on Sundays. Fewer have been put up in the last few weeks.
Show hasn’t been funny in decades, don’t need to see it here.
The haters always say that show hasn’t been funny in years. The original SNL crew was over rated, funny but not that funny. I find the late 90s SNL crew annoying and also over rated. The funniest SNL crew was the Dana Carvey/Adam Sandler era. Last night’s show was funny.
It must be awful, that gun at your head to click the link. You’re a hero to continue to soldier on with life.
the Kardashians are a blythe on society
??? Perhaps, blight is the word you’re looking for?
Yeah. I thought Blythe was Gwyneth’s Mother.
Maybe they meant Bluth on society, as in Arrested Development.
I assumed Ann Blythe!
@anon:
Feel free to scroll past it, whiner. No one put a gun to your head and made you watch it.
Waaaaaa…
I heap a lot of abuse on SNL, which is still less than it routinely deserves.
But this was solid. The aim was true and it connected.
Credit where credit is due.
I watched the actual show and was bored and asked why all the hubub about the K’s? I watched this and thought, I might actually watch the show if it was this every week. That is just so sad.
Exactly, and continues to get worse. SNL used to have balls and soul and now has neither.

I too am shocked that Hollywood still hasn’t caught on to the fact that audiences love Charlie Day. They need to stop pushing the Taylor Lautners and Olivia Wildes on us and give the people what they really want.
Charlie Day sensational! Don’t know why he hasn’t popped more in movies … great in Bosses. Skits pretty good too …. Maroon 5 … what a great band though I didn’t understand their second song with the rapper. Let’s face it: RAP is very, very over rated …. right? Adam Levine is a great singer, writer and performer … thought for a moment Aguilera might show up; and, a Seinfeld cameo would have worked wonders; though that was a pretty funny skit … especially when Sudekis began to break up. Funny show!DeVito pretty funny too … man, is he short!!! Tiny terror indeed!
Give SNL credit…that was a really amusing, well done sketch!…and what’s with this Charlie Day fascination? He’s an embarassement on the CBS (soon to be cancelled) show he created. It’s a piece of crap!…and an OVER estimated, sketch comedy actor, nothing more.
He didn’t create any show on CBS, what are you talking about?
Kardashian skit was funny. I love when they do Kim. Bruce Jenner was funny too.
Joking about Gadhafi’s brutal murder and sexual assault is reprehensible. Sickening. Shame on them.
Nah! It’s comedy!
As reprehensible as say, the Lockerbie bombing?
Ghaddaffi Had nothing to do with the lockerbie bombing but mainstream media addicts such as yourselves wouldn’t know how to read anything other than the CIA fed mainstream media.
Ghaddaffi was a reptilian humanoid, and he’s actually an agent for Mossad, the man in the videos was just an actor. The men in the black helicopters told me all of this the other day.
SNL wasn’t doing humorous skits about the victims of the Lockerbie bombing you idiot. Learn how to construct a proper comparison.
This. Also, were any of them sodomized with a knife? You have to admit that mocking the victim of such a brutal assault is a whole new level of inhumanity. Shame on SNL, truly. What soulless, horrible people.
Kristen Wiig as Kris Jenner had never been done out of all the skits Nassim Pedrad and the others have done as the sisters and I couldn’t help but wonder why it took so long since it looked so perfect. Wiig rocked it and so did Taram Killan as Bruce.
The 1 positive thing that comes out of the Whordashian fiasco: This marks the end of their “popularity” as the audiences sees how everything they are & do is manufactured & lose interest.
Here’s hoping.
When Kristen leaves SNL, Lorne is going to weep and fall to the floor, screaming why? She’s the reason I watch SNL.
I wonder if the K’s are going to release a statement about how cruel SNL is to them? Heh.
Charlie day should get an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for horrible bosses. Kevin Kline and Alan arlin won for comedic performances. It’s such a superb performance
sam, charlie day doesn’t deserve an Oscar nomination. He can be funny, but he is very one-note. Trust me, no one connected to Horrible Bosses deserve any Oscar nomination whatsoever.
What exactly kardashians do is ……NOTHING !!!!!
Creepy slime standing in front of a camera.
What …………are they. ……??????
scammers.
“Personally, Veda’s convinced me that alligators have the right idea. They eat their young.”
have to admit, I’m definitely an SNL hater but that was pretty good. Probably because I hate the Kardashians even more. Good work SNL, now let’s try to do that every sketch, then maybe the show will be worth watching consistently
C day deserves his day. Kardashian divorce skit was one of the best they’ve done in the past few seasons. Just proves what a few good things done together can do for the show.
It is an example of what SNL does best – react quickly to developing news stories with a send-up. Usually, it is political (as with Fey/Palin in 2008), but also with pop culture news.
This is the only type of media coverage the Kardashian clan deserves – satire and ridicule. Another useless group of family members famous for being famous. They will quickly be yesterday’s Hilton sisters.
I can’t wait until ‘In living Color’ comes back on.
