EXCLUSIVE: Michael Chiklis is teaming with former The Shield co-star Forest Whitaker for Pawn, an independent crime film centered around a hostage situation that has gone terribly wrong. Also starring in the film will be Common (Hell On Wheels), and Ray Liotta. The film marks David A. Armstrong’s directorial debut, and the feature debut for Chiklis’ production company Extravaganza Films. Chiklis will produce with The Story Department’s Brad Luff, Most Films’ Jeff Most and Imprint Entertainment’s Michael Becker. Jay Anthony White wrote the script, in which an ex-con becomes entangled in a manipulative chess game between the Feds, local police and the mob. Chiklis, who most recently starred alongside Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez in Parker, was introduced to the project by Luff, who’s executive producer of Parker. Pawn starts production December 1. Chiklis is repped by WME and Management 360, Whitaker by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Common is repped by WME and Oasis and Liotta by UTA and Untitled. Armstrong’s repped by Original Artists.

I hope this gets a theatrical release. Too many recent films starring either Ray Liotta or Forest Whitaker have just gone straight to DVD.
Is there a world in which a film starring Michael Chiklis and Forest Whitaker does NOT go directly to DVD???
It amazes me the lengths Kavanaugh will go to just to keep tabs on Vic Mackey. Now he is following him into this film.
From the days of renting movies in the store to now scanning the offerings of Netflix and the like, I’m always surprised that there are so many big names starring in so many straight-to-video flicks. Do any of them actually make money?
Forest Whitaker is a great actor. I remember him from Jim Jarmusch’s “Ghost Dog”, and from Robert Altman’s “Pret-a-Porter”.
He has this melancholy, and at the same time, a down to earth toughness.
Can’t say that Michael Chiklis is of the same Caliber. It’s a one-note actor who hit it big with the Shield.
I wish there was a great project for Forest Whitaker. He’s one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.
This movie doesn’t sound like it. Hostage situation? Another hostage situation movie? I feel held hostage by a bad movie idea. I’m sure this will also build on the fight between the characters of the two in “Shield’. One more point off. Are there any left?
Chiklis and Whitaker were pretty explosive when paired together in “The Shield.” Here’s hoping some of that intense chemistry is captured in this project.
