After lengthy negotiations with Lionsgate, Showtime has closed a deal for an eighth season of comedy Weeds. Production on the 13-episode eighth season will start next year for a 2012 launch. Weeds, created by Jenji Kohan, is the longest-running series on Showtime and the most watched comedy. It stars Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban widow-turned- full-fledged marijuana queenpin. Justin Kirk, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould and Kevin Nealon co-star.

Could not agree more. Horrible show that jumped at least four seasons ago. The show should have ended with her burning the house in Agrestic down. This was a story that could not have gone past a certain season number and boy, they sure proved it.
Well then – another 3 months that I will never see my husband but will happily roll around in the money and roll a doobie to celebrate!

I really don’t get why this eighth season isn’t announced as a much needed final season. It’s a really fun show, season 6 was a huge return to form and one of the best comedies of 2010, but with a disappointing season 7 in 2011, enough is enough.
The show should end next year.
I don’t get most of the hate this series puts up with. Yes I agree it had a rather uneven season 3 and 4, the show as a whole has always been constant and good for at least one laugh an episode.

God. Why??? It must still make them money. This used to be one of my top 3 or 4 favorite shows. It is now one of my most hated. The actors are wonderful but the show is utter crap. I’ve tried an episode or two every year for the past 3-4 years just in case, but it is SO bad.
Oh well, I don’t watch it anymore so *shrug*
OMG, please let this show die already. It stopped being good after the first season and stopped being decent after the 3rd. It is pure crap now.
The sad thing is that I am too weak to quit watching. I just keep telling myself “it is just one last season and then I am done” but it just won’t end…
Seasons 4 and 5 blew no question, but Season 6 started to improve and Season 7 was a MAJOR return to form, I’m very happy that this show is still on the air as it seems they know what they are doing again…
Wow, really? I completely disagree. Seasons 4 and 5 were good, and season 6 and 7 were completely horrible, with 6 being the worst. Nothing happened in that season! I thought this past season would be a return to form but it really wasn’t. Please, improve this year, Weeds, and let it be your last.
If anyone’s seen weeds they either think it’s genius or are disappointed that it’s not a one note sitcom about a mom in suburbia who sells marijuana. Sorry but those people should stick with network television and stop hating. I want the show to run forever… These guys never run out of stories to tell and I love it.
Agreed! I also agree with some of the people who say it has went down, after every big change they have made I said I wouldn’t watch the show anymore. But I said that because I thought it had changed too much. It always changed for the better and the family has never really changed as well we still have the same family we had 8 years ago just grown up. If the show did last forever I wouldn’t stop watching it, the stories and laughs never get old.
Thank you Showtime! This show is absolutely brilliant. The constant reincarnation is something that is underutilized in television. Since every season is such a different story, how can you not stay intrigued by where the Botwin’s are going and what they’re going to do next?
Took them a while to renew it. Here’s hoping its the last since it hasn’t been great since season 4, and hasn’t been good since season 6. It became a hairy mess. If I want my drug-addled tv, i’ll stick to Breaking Bad…until it ends of course.

The show seemed to jump the shark when Bob Greenblatt left Showtime. His guiding hand and her talent kept the show on creative track. Left to her own devices, Weeds has devolved from “must watch” to “who cares”

First two seasons were amazing. Great story, great laughs… All the seasons after that remained funny…. but nothing too special.

Weeds has gotten better each season. They are not worried about great change. I think most of these people want a show to stick with the same format. No room for growth .To bad for them I for one will be a happy camper. THANK YOU WEEDS

LOVE this show. I hope season eight is not the last FANTASTIC ensemble cast. Still missing celia and her daughter. Will watch it until it goes off the air.
P.s. also love to see the fashions and jewelry on Nancy Botwin. Not as good as season 3 and 4 but still okay.
I believe that this show is great, no matter how you look at it. Even the most recent seasons, which have been a bit of a bomb to most, were actually pretty nice. I believe it went slow to build up to something huge, like this. Weeds is the greatest show, and I hope it lives on for even a Season 10.
