SNL Auditions Regis Philbin Replacements
Last night’s Saturday Night Live hosted by Jason Segel with musical guest Florence + The Machine, averaged a 4.6/11 in metered-market households and a 2.8/12 in adults 18-49 in Local People Meters. The late-night sketch show was up a tenth in both measures from last week’s telecast hosted by Emma Stone with Coldplay. In 18-49, SNL mached its best result this season (tied with the Oct. 12 edition hosted by Charlie Day with Maroon 5). Here is Segel’s monologue, in which he was joined by his co-stars from The Muppets movie:
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Do they pay you for these placements? It can’t possibly be because you’re a fan of this piece of shit show.
I’m going to need you to take that bitterness down just a notch.
The Muppets were amazing!!
Best episode in a long time. With the exception if the played out Vogecheks bit (but it was a good way to bring in Paul rudd) the episode was really entertaining.
Dude, that sketch was the only funny thing on the whole damn episode.
Please, please, please… fire the head writer. I know, I know, Seth Meyers seems like a great guy… but seriously, the shit that is flying here is embarrassing even a die hard fan like me. There is a great core of talent on that show… so why has the bar been set so, so low?
Please, someone from SNL chime in here… defend what’s going on or give us a hint as to why these shows continue to disappoint. I feel like you can see the cast gritting their teeth as perform in these sketches… what’s happening?
Go easy on Seth – it was bad under Tina Fey, too. I love 30 Rock, but the years she was head writer of SNL were lazy and not funny. There’ve been some strong recurring sketches the last decade, but overall? The thrill is gone.
Truth be told, it hasn’t been great-great since the Carvey-Lovitz-Nora Dunn-Dennis Miller-Phil Hartman years.
The ONLY thing you liked the entire episode was the Vogelchecks skit? In the words of the man you’re bashing himself: “Really????”
It didn’t feel like Segel was really going for any of it…
So much of that show relies on the host actually doing their job — and being funny. The whole episode felt like my tired college roommate was hosting.
I’ll also bet that Florence and the Machine had a big part in the ratings.
“SNL hasn’t been funny since the 1980s” some people say. Get over it, last night was a funny episode.
yes they need to get the eff over it… snl is not meant for old folks who used to like the show when they were 15 or 20…
Or when the show was actually good (week in week out) you mean.
Mediocre elite:
Paul Rudd
David wain
Jason segal
Who the he’ll us Charlie day
Reno 911
Steve carvel
>Steve carvel
But you gotta admit, Fudgie the Whale is one awesome ice cream cake.
muppets were the best part… along with the andre the giant thing and the rerun of the red flag commercial… and really with seth and kermit
Really? Two positive postings about SNL in one day on DH? Really? Not being paid off by NBC and/or Lorne Michaels? Really?
Funny, I was going to post “only 2 positive posts about SNL today? They must have cut back their payments”
How does Seth Myers even have a job? The guy is just a talentless hack. Kermit and the Muppets with some assistance from Segal stole the show last night.
The show was almost unwatchable. The weird sweetness of Florence was the only thing that kept me watching. The problem with the show is the writing. They have performers, although I know it’s heresy, but can Kristin Wiig play any other note? There is no center any longer. There’s no ensemble to speak of where two or three actors anchor a funny idea. The Vogechecks was just gross and if I’m Jason Siegal or Paul Ruud Im simply not doing that stuff because it has no comedy roots. The goodbye to the CEo sketch was just pathetic with Kristin using up whatever good will she has left. The dungarees band was confused foremother reasons… Lyrics were lame and the cut-aways to the bar as Paul and Florence entered were not choreographed for the actor or the camera. And Seth Meyers is just so uninteresting in the anchor chair. With Jon Stewart killing it 5 days a week, you would think someone at SNL would be embarrassed enough to try to make it better. It takes them a week to write this crap? There are sketch classes at USC writing funnier bits than these. Time for a big think on where this show is going.
I have to admit I did enjoy the dungarees band, it had a sweet nostalgic feel to it. As usual, Weekend update & SNL Digital Short were the best thing of the evening. Most sketches seem to be there purely for shock value (Vogelcheck) or to offer a chanceto the newbies to show their imitation skills, and were just not funny. Overall it was average, and I’ll keep on watching because… oh well, I don’t know why.
