EXCLUSIVE: Syfy continues to build a comedy development slate as the cable network is yet to greenlight its first half-hour pilot. Syfy’s latest comedy buy is Ghost Ghirls, a project created by Jeremy Konner, Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci and executive produced by Jack Black. Directed by Konner, Ghost Ghirls is a comedic take on popular paranormal procedurals like Medium and Ghost Whisperer starring Lund and Blasucci (improv two-women show BEANS!) as two women: Heidi, who has self-proclaimed psychic abilities, and Angelica, who is a tech wiz. Together they attempt to solve paranormal mysteries each week while trying to prove to themselves and their customers that they are competent ghost hunters.
Electric Dynamite’s Jack Black and Priyanka Mattoo will executive produce with Ben Cooley, while Konner will serve as producer. Black and Konner previously worked together on Drunk History, the Derek Waters-created series of shorts, which Konner directed. In it, comedians get very, very drunk, then re-tell their favorite stories from history with re-enactment. Black starred in 2 shorts as Ben Franklin. Another short, Drunk History: Douglass & Lincoln starring Will Ferrell and Don Cheadle, won the Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Drunk History shorts also aired as part of the HBO series Funny Or Die Presents, exec produced by Ferrell. WME reps all parties involved. Konner, Lund, Blasucci are managed by 3 Arts.

YES! Jeremy is legitimately funny and is a great guy. Great to see the good guys win once in a while.
Syfy reality is the worst of the worst. I applaud them developing anything that requires actual work in putting together.
Seems like a good group on this project, but I’m surprised Syfy keeps suckering people into developing pilots that never happen. Didn’t we read 2 years ago about a slew of high profile comedies in development? I’m pretty sure one was actually a ghost hunters type show.
I agree. And you just reminded me that SyFy announced a teen or kids block of programming a year or so ago that hasn’t materialized as far as I can tell.
I remember a zombie comedy and a project where Kevin Sorbo plays himself and fights monsters. Does this mean those aren’t happening?
I would assume this means that those are dead. A zombie comedy feels a little been there done that anyway. I wouldn’t mind seeing some Sorbo monster killing on a weekly basis. Hercules! Hercules! Hercules!
Also I’d watch GhostGhirls if Jack Black shows up in it!
This premise is solid. All they need now is a sassy streetwise black guy and a talking animal.
isn’t this just “psych” with ghost hunters?
SyFy is going to spoof their own product (Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters International)? That will go over well. Will they get sued for this like they’re getting sued for Ghost Hunters?
Seriously. The thing I find most hilarious… Ghost Hunters is basically a scripted show already. It’s more mocumentary than actual reality or documentary anyway. What’s next? A scripted version of The Kardashians?
Maria and Amanda are two of the funniest women alive! The world of comedy is about to be blown away!
