BREAKING: CAA agents Mike Nilon, Jessica Matthews and Shari Smiley are leaving the agency. Nilon is in the feature talent department, Matthews is feature lit, and Smiley was part of the book department. They follow by days the exit of Rand Holston. There has been a flurry of conjecture today about the imminent exit of a number of agents. CAA insiders denied those names are involved. The list is limited to the above three agents. No word yet on where Nilon, Matthews and Smiley will go. Holston is in talks with several agencies.

Nilon is one of the nicest and smartest guys in this business, hope he finds a good home
Which home and which wife?
Aahahaha! I died! I DIED..oh man…
Buh-bye, Jessica.
Amen.
Hey TV guy, I hear she is taking a job in television. Hope you have been nice to her because you may need her…
You love this one!
The other guy’s a jerk
I like her
He’s brilliant
She’s an idiot
Good move by CAA
Stupid move by CAA
They’ll all go to UTA
etc etc etc
Jessica is amazing! Big loss.
Mike is a great and hardworking agent !!
Shari is good people and I hope she lands wherever she finds suitable.
Agreed. Shari is awesome. Really surprised by this one.
Jessica is smart, respected and good looking. Her future in TV/Film will be bright. Major loss for CAA.
Yes, especially because she’s so good looking. I respect everyone who’s good looking. Who wouldn’t? Who couldn’t?
Mike may not be a marquee signing agent, but that guy can cover and service better than just about anyone. Assuming he goes to another agency, they’ll be very lucky to have him. He’s well liked, well respected, and while other agents are busy chasing after other peoples’ clients, Mike is actually working on behalf of his own and those of other agents. By and large, CAA’s top brass and old school agents know what they’re doing, most of the low-level guys work hard but typically don’t know what they’re doing, and the ones that fall in between-the majority of the agents there-typically rest on their laurels, are afraid to have an opinion for fear of being wrong, and defer to managers and lawyers for any real decision making. Mike is a rare exception in that he falls in that middle tier, on the higher end of course, but he knows he’s doing, works hard, and unlike all too many agents these days, he’s not afraid to have an opinion. Nowadays, most agents spend more time trying to sign new clients than they do actually earning the 10% from the ones they have already. Nilon actually represents his clients. The CAA machine will keep moving without him, of course, but there is no question that this is a loss for CAA and a gain for any agency that snatches him up.
Love Jessica!!! Hope this isn’t true.
Shari the one of the kindest people in the industry and kicks butt for her clients.
Having worked with the all the aforementioned, I wish them well.
The Death Star is killing that company.
Really unbelievable, CAA is giving up such a fresh voice and unique agent in Jessica.I’m sure the other agency will snatch her in no time.
I keep telling the Deadline Team: Follow the money. Think people are happy with their bonuses? More agents will go in the new year…
CAA just gave out bonuses a few weeks ago so everyone now knows exactly what the company thin ks of them, because the salad days are over for them. Look for more people to leave, get fired, become managers, etc…
Mike is intelligent, straight forward, loyal and truly a class guy. Any company would be fortunate to have him.
Merry Christmas! What a way to enter the holiday season…
Shari started as a receptionist at CAA and through hard work, talent and niceness rose through the ranks. I look forward to seeing where she goes and will continue to hit her up for material wherever she is!
Cue the comments about how Shari’s family (or whatever) posted this but this is a legit comment of appreciation for someone who’s always been good to me through thick and thin.
Hearing Alex Lerner coming back…
That whoever is editing this comment section is being extremely kind to these three.
Nonsense. We all know how Hollywood works, the disgruntled love to take any opportunity to kick people – particularly from behind the (Oz-like) curtain of anonymity.
As a casual viewer, I keep forgetting how much this is an ‘insiders’ website. Keep up the good work.
What a nice Xmas gift from Big Red. Do any of these agents have clients they can travel with?
Init, perhaps you should learn what Salad Days actually means before using it in a post.
In other words, the opposite of what you think.
Jessica is funny, whip smart and a great person to work with. I love her, and have no doubt she’s going to land with her nose in the butter.
High time they are cutting some of the fat at CAA. Should be more agents on the hit list. Shari Smiley never developed her own vision or had any real courage. Too much of a follower, always afraid of getting the axe, now it has happened. I would say she’s been on the short list for some time. A little surprised by Nilon, but not totally. He’s a hard worker, but maybe not the most appealing guy. Now let’s see what happens to more of the MP agents, that dept. is long overdue for a huge overhaul. Lots of lazy dead wood there. Risa, Rowina Arguelles, etc., so many dinosaurs not sure what everyone does all day over there. And people like Jon Levin, he should be behind glass in a museum by now.
…And your fabulous accomplishments, that supersede these people, are what exactly? You mistakenly forgot to leave your name in order that your ‘value’ may be judged anonymously, an oversight no doubt. Get a life.
