Here is a new trailer for Showtime’s upcoming dark comedy series House Of Lies, which the network will unspool on Sunday. The show, starring Don Cheadle as a self-loathing, womanizing management consultant from a top-tier firm, premieres on January 8, paired with Californication.

time for kristen bell to get new reps!
Boring. Don’t even know what it’s about because the people that wrote don’t know the world they’re writing about… but wouldn’t it be fun to make fun of business fat cats? Oh! Yes! Real Answer: No, ’cause you don’t even know what you’re talking about. And I HATE business fat cats, but I wouldn’t write about ‘em.
Up next: I like Cheadle, mostly. He does come off a little arrogant, but he’s solid in front of the camera. However, he looks old here… really old. And decrepit. And did he just get out of chemo? He looks thin inside the thinnest of thin Men’s suit. If he’s sick, I apologize. But if he’s not, then WTF, dude? Don’t do that shit to the rest of us. You are supposed to be a man. I can’t take you seriously if you lose so much weight I could waft you away with a blow dryer…not that I own a blow dryer, or anything.
Finally, don’t break the 4th wall and talk to the audience on high-end cable. It’s lame as shit. Who thinks that’s a good idea? These shows are supposed to lead the revolution of great content, not follow. FX, AMC, and the rest push the boundary of what storytelling can be on TV. Push it further. Stop talking to the camera, and push it further!
Alright, so breaking the 4th wall is not a hard-and-fast rule, but it looks from the teaser that you’re using the device to wink at the audience, to gain their trust, and tell them, “you’re just like me, and vice-versa.” Fuck that shit. I am giving you my permission as a TV watcher to destroy my trust and build up something new, something grand. Intrigue me, fuck me over. Give me something I’ve never seen before and blow me out of the water. Stop with the mediocre. Strive for brilliance and fail. Please fail in front of me rather than try to jerk my limp dick off. Tease me. Pinch me. Punch me in the gut. But whatever you do, don’t jerk me off; I do it better myself.
YES. That said, this is a textbook story-driven announcement teaser. As this is Showtime, HOUSE OF LIES may deliver in spades. Count me in.
I hear they’re high on this show over there. But hear the Farrelly Bros one is funnier…
Franklin Ajaye and Bash!
Nice rant, but god, who really cares as long as Kristen Bell’s naked?
incredibly excited about this show. I love Don Cheadle and think the pilot was hilarious. Can’t wait!!!!
Where’s the comedy? What Showtime considers a comedy, I unfortunately don’t. Fortunately, I’ve heard the Farrelly comedy pilot script was pretty funny and those guys know comedy. Hope it lives up to the hype.
AM I supposed to believe that women are throwing themselves at Don Cheadle? That’s too big a buy for me.
Got a Beggars and Choosers vibe for some reason.
Oh hells yeah!!! Cheadle in a comedic role, a dark comedic role – this is going to ROCK. Cheadle’s been funny ever since BOOGIE NIGHTS but they hardly ever cast him in a comedic role – so under used in THE GUARD for instance. And now he’s the lead, this is too awesome, can’t wait.
The 1% sticking it to the 1%, that’s pretty funny – I think people in this economy will get and like this show.
Hmmm… I guess I’ll wait and see, but it’s not grabbing me on first look. The trick with “Californication” is that, even when the characters are assholes, they’re still likeable. It doesn’t look like anyone is likeable in this. I’ll give the pilot a go, but I’m not hopeful.
this show is not going to work. Don is not a lead in any sense of the word. He’s fucking all these mixed women but the one white one he’ll never touch? How convenient.
! season and out.
