We know Hollywood studios fake film reviews and movie ads. Now a sharp-eyed blog recently noticed some “strangely optimistic comments” from the same IP address within a 2-hour span after posting Relativity’s Mirror Mirror trailer. Turns out MovieMavericks.com found the exact same comments placed on many other blogs that posted the Mirror Mirror trailer. “The big question is who’s behind this ‘astroturfing’? Is it someone in Julia Robert’s camp? Tarsem Singh’s, Armie Hammer’s or Lily Collins’ people? Has Relativity Media hired some grey area marketing agency? Or is it simply a devoted fan?” the website asked. Oh puh-leeze: studios regularly hire trolls to post comments on the Internet.

it was probably one of lily collins eyebrows. those guys are out of control
Aubrey Hepburn, Brooke Shields and Kathy Ireland all had the same eyebrows. Didn’t seem to have slowed down their career any, there is such a thing as different tastes in beauty. Not every actress in Hollywood has to look like a plastic surgery clone. I don’t know why people like you got to pick on that young girl’s looks for no good reason why don’t you post YOUR picture for us to judge?
Groucho Marx also had those eyebrows. They put Abe Vigoda’s to shame. Audrey Hepburn never had overgrown chia pets taking over her face. Collin’s has a unibrow, nothing is classic about that.
@armite, your comment actually made me chuckle quite a bit, but I do hope that you weren’t serious. Young people, especially young girls, read this kind of criticism and the easiest thing for them is to start doubting the charm of their natural physical attributes. Lilly Collins is a pretty girl and her eyebrows make her stand out, if anything.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind studios I am the living definition of the word venal. I have been known to make the HFPA look like a benevolent fund. Here I am. You can have me. Just don’t expect me to actually like your film.
Screenplay was an uninspired epic fail. The sad thing is that as embarrassing as the trailer was, it was actually an improvement from what was on the page. At least the costume designer did a good job.
I loved Mirror, Mirror. JR was ahmazing! And Armie had the greatest performance of his certain to be illustrious career!
This movie is going to need a lot more trolls…
Is anyone surprised by this? Studios have long been planting fake reviews on IMDB, leaving fake comments on anonymous boards. With millions of dollars at stake, why would we expect anything less? Particularly when a film appears to be such a stinker. The only way to prevent this kind of thing would be to stop anonymous posting, but then comments boards wouldn’t make for such entertaining reading.
Mirror Mirror was the worst trailer I’ve seen all year. “Abysmal” is the first term that pops in my head.
Frankly, they need the help. SWATH stars Kristen Stewart and even people who don’t like her are saying they’d prefer her portrayal to Lily Collins. MM looks cheap and clownish. At least SWATH looks tolerable. It’s not even going to be close at the box office IMO.
The trailer was poorly received so they need to fake praise, especially in comparison to the Snow White and the Huntsman trailer which premiered the week before. Universal screwed them by 1) being the first one out with a trailer 2) delivering a kick ass trailer for a movie that’s not even finished filming yet.
I think the film looks fantastic. Julia is a star. Armie is handsome. Tarsem is a visionary and Ryan Kavanaugh is great at spending money. I’m there opening night with a lot of people buying a lot of tickets. did I say it right?
I don’t understand. I loved the trailer. I may not be the teenage target but i thought the trailer was like a dreamworks or pixar trailer, why would people think others would not like it.
I’m not surprised, that movie’s going to need all the help it can get. Looks like a piece of shit.
I don’t see how anyone would want to see this version of Snow White when Universal’s Snow White & the Huntsman looks so much more cooler and epic. Tarsem is talented, but Immortals sucked and Julia Roberts doesn’t make a compelling evil Queen. Besides, its freaken Rupert Sanders, the guy is a mad genius.
I totally agree. What is the big deal. The trailer looks really good. It looks like a movie that kids and mothers will want to see. Granted Universal’s looks cool, but this reminds me more of Shrek then anything. Why would be question others liking it. Maybe I am naive here.
But not Relativity, they would never do that.
Mirror Mirror looks so 90′s.
the same thing was really obvious with the release of the HUNGER GAMES trailer….many of the comments used the same wording, phrasing, even punctuation within just a few comments of each other and you saw many of these comments repeated across other websites that just made it laughable.
Spreading fake praise on this one shouldn’t surprise anyone…I’ve never seen such a horrendous trailer…it looks like mid-1990′s Touchstone cheese….the only thing missing from it is Tim Allen, Steve Guttenberg and Martin Short.
I think you made your point with “Tim Allen”. To follow that with “Steve Guttenberg” was shoving it to the ground then kicking it in the groin with “Martin Short”. Mean. Just mean…
That’s not fair. Some people like Martin Short. Nobody likes Steve Guttenberg.
HAHA – thanks for that.
So if you don’t like it nobody will, huh? Self-centered much? And this isn’t news, it’s gossip.
I don’t get all the hype. Clearly this is a kids film that looks really “cute”. Universal’s looks like Robin Hood (which I thought sucked anyway and was both Relativity and Universal so I don’t know what to make of that). But at the end of the day all the hype and these are not even similar movies?
Just another example of how today’s web world will spin anything they can think of to drive traffic to their web page, blog, facebook, twitter, etc… Give me a break!
omg desperate hahahahaha i knew it
Fain fake praise? Well, I saw the trailer and I don’t know who in Mirror’s crowd would feel so needy. Clever, good looking, enough fairy and enough tail. Let the magic work and stay away from insecure reflections.
The trailer for Mirror Mirror looks great!
Ha! You’re a troll. I can see the giant tufts of technicolor hair coming out the top of your head.
Is it the same people that are faking praise for THE HUNGER GAMES trailer?!?!
“OHMYGOODDDDDDD!!!! Greatest trailer in the history of — uhhh — TRAILERS!!! When can I buy tickets?!?!?! Please tell me!! I’m going to quit my job so I can see THE HUNGER GAMES — the best movie in the history of — uhhh — MOVIES!!!!!!!!!”
