EXCLUSIVE: Californication star David Duchovny has signed with WME. He had been with ICM. Duchovny won a Golden Globe for his role on the dark Showtime comedy series whose fifth season premieres on January 8th. The X Files alum just wrapped indie thriller‘Phantom, in which he stars with Ed Harris. He also recently filmed the feature Goats alongside Vera Farmiga, Keri Russell, Minnie Driver and Ty Burrell. Season 5 is shaping up to be the final season of the show. Sad that it’s coming to an end but this show has been one of the highlights of American television and David? Duchovny’s opus. I hope they go out with a bang.

At the end of the day what really matters is the talent,the agent,and their relationship. WME,ICM,CAA,UTA? There are winners and there are losers in everyone of these agencies on both sides of the coin. It’s all relevant.

Please. Duchovny is as smart as he is talented. Perhaps THE most educated actor in Hollywood – bachelor’s degree (Princeton), Master of Arts in English literature (Yale) and only lacks finishing his dissertation on poetry for the Ph.D. there.

it’s great that Duchovny has all those papers on his wall, scary that this is important to Fox Mulder–and obvious that almost none of that academic intelligence translates to good acting–he’s monotonous in voice and expression, and if he’s charismatic in person, that must be blinding decision makers because he’s dull as dishwater on camera…

David was at ICM for 10+ years with Risa Shapiro. He left when he had his first midlife crisis back in about 2002 or 2003 and went with Bryan Lourd. CAA held onto him for about 18 months and then I want to say he went to UTA. Tracey Jacobs had her way and Risa signed him back to ICM before she left to become a manager.
ICM has sucked Duchovny dry (ok, not best phrase for this guy). Yet, they got all the money from X Files (including the $35-50mm law suit he won). I would imagine it is safe to say ICM will get paid on his Showtime series. So, they get to collect but not worry about servicing his film acting career (which I actually think Hildy Gottlieb had done a great job with as of late). Let’s not forget, he left UTA when Nick Stevens told him he was a TV star.
Yes, David is very very smart but his own worst enemy. He is having a second midlife crisis. He needs to finally pull the plug from Tea Leoni (clearly they don’t want to divorce for the kids) and realize Ari Emanuel has been after him since before Ari left ICM to start Endeavor…literally. It is very odd. I think it is a conquest. He’s finally won.
Who I wouldn’t want to be in this situation is Melanie Greene. She’s been there since the beginning (Red Shoe Diaries) BUT she’s seemingly been all about self preservation. Yet, who can really blamer her since the business has become so —- intense.
Worth repeating–much ado about an actor who on camera is like watching grass grow..playing the Hollywood game well and winning the economic (on camera) lottery..doesn’t make you talented or interesting-stop drinking the kool-aid…

I have to agree with Nick Stevens, he’s great on TV but dull in movies. Hildy sounds like she was doing a solid job. WME won’t deliver any better. He’ll be slammed in another series quickly there…that’s where he is meaningful.
