EXCLUSIVE: Max Greenfield, one of the male leads opposite Zooey Deschanel on Fox’s breakout new comedy series New Girl, has signed with WME. He was at TalentWorks. On New Girl, Greenfield plays Schmidt, one of Jessica (Deschanel)’s 3 male roommates, a self-proclaimed ladies man and the group’s designated “douche bag.” Greenfield, who previously had major recurring roles on Ugly Betty, Veronica Mars and Greek, is managed by Adena Chawke and Lisa Wright.

Really funny guy – he kind of makes that show
Sometimes funny, sometimes just terrible.
Yup, he’s hilarious on the show. Never saw him before NG, but he’s got a bright future.
For me Schmidt is the standout character on New Girl – he brightens up every scene he’s in…
We know. “How dare he?! He owes everything to TalentWorks! Where’s the loyalty?? Blah-blah-blah.”
Yeah. We know.
it’s part of the business. but i agree, he makes the show.
Really happy for Max. “Schmidt” makes NEW GIRL so quotable and hilarious. Been a long time coming for Max and it’s great to see him on the rise!
put a dollar in the jar.
How long did talentworks carry him before he got his break?
Oh Please! Adena Chawke doesn’t do anything but take the credit & the money…….he has his wife to thank for this job.
This and many other jobs!
Haters gotta hate! Truth is Max is one of the nicest, hardest working actors on the show. The character didn’t just happen, Max made it happen. Happy for his success and the success of the show.
I don’t know about Adena, but Lisa Wright is one of the hardest working people I’ve met in this town, so I’m pretty sure she’s had a hand in Max’s success. So too, presumably, has Max. Either way, he’s a talented guy and it’s hard to fault him for wanting to make the most of his success.
To say his wife is responsible for his success when he’s clearly AMAZING on the show is both transparent and bitter. He’s responsible for his own success. There are a lot of producers, writers and casting directors married to actors who can’t get their careers off the ground.
Watched a few NG eps, and to me he seems like the poor man’s Barney Stinson and NPH.
I understand the “trying too hard” d-bag character angle, but it seems that he tries too hard at “trying too hard.”
So you discredit him because he has convinced you that he’s a d-bag because he plays his character so well? Who’s the d-bag?
Big agencies used to pride themselves on not poaching smaller agencies clients. Shame on WME and this loser actor.
Ha! Since when?!
All big agencies do is poach – it’s the ivory trade out here! But they often do get their new clients bigger opportunities. Did Talentworks get him this gig? Or was it his management – someone more & more managers are forced to do in this day…
Max is a fine actor, nothing special, but that’s not the point here. A signing like this is a direct illustration of the current economy in Hollywood. Maybe he got $30k an ep in year one (My guess would be closer to $25k). If the show builds consistently he gets $75k after year 3 and maybe $150k by year 6. In the old days WMA or Endeavor wouldn’t have lifted a finger for commissions like this, but things have changed. They need to go after this cash these days, who knows what WME told him, maybe he’ll get a shot at what TJ Miller is passing on… You can’t blame Max for making the move, he’s worked hard and scrapped for 10 years, he wants to take his shot while he’s got a chance, and he ends up making this move out of fear. Fear of missing something. Yeah it sucks for Talentworks who is capable enough to do the job, but the reality is that nothing will change for him. The dirty secret is that there are probably 5 other agencies reading this post who had a meeting with him, that are kicking themselves for not cashing in, and letting him go to WME.
Interesting theory AZ. This show’s a WME package though, so they won’t be commissioning him at all on this.
If nothing else, that was probably the deciding factor in why he went with WME. Assuming his contract is renegotiated, not getting commissioned on a show that you know is going to run for a few years really adds up in the bank account, especially for an up and coming actor.
I like the Schmidt character a lot, sometimes even more than the lead. But I wonder how much it’s the writers not knowing what to do with the rest of the cast. They come off as ciphers a lot of the time. Greenfield, though, seems game to do almost anything, including removing his shirt at every opportunity. Hey, I say if you’ve got it (which he does), flaunt it.
No disrespect to Max, but it’s funny that he plays a douchebag and is now repped by douchebags.
He didn’t sign with UTA…
Who? Oh, the guy on that show that nobody watches. Yeah, he’s great. I’m just bustin’ balls. He’s…who are we talking about again?
