Moviegoers will be able to catch the 6-minute 70mm Imax film prologue for Warner Bros’ The Dark Knight Rises beginning December 16 in front of special advance previews in the same ultra-large-format film versions of Paramount’s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Warner Bros. on Thursday revealed the names and locations of the 70mm Imax film theaters that will present the 6-minute TDKR prologue ahead of the 70mm Imax film version of Ghost Protocol. In a statement director Christopher Nolan described the shooting and presentation of Imax 65mm/70mm film as “inspiring” and said “the immersive quality of the image goes beyond any other filmmaking tool available. … Giving the fans an early look at an Imax sequence is a great way to draw attention to what I believe will be an incredible way to experience” The Dark Knight Rises when it opens July 20, 2012. The prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will not screen with digital Imax or regular digital or 35mm film presentations of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Regular, non-Imax versions of Ghost Protocol open December 21. The list of theaters follows. Moviegoers should confirm theaters will be playing the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises before purchasing tickets.

Citywalk here I come…….
How is Las Vegas not on this list??
We have some incredible IMAX screens and they showed the first prologue here back when it was attached to the IMAX I AM LEGEND prints.
They aren’t showing it in your area because you don’t have a true 70mm IMAX screen in your area. It is Ditigal IMAX. The same thing happened to me in my area as well.
Thank god a proper director like Nolan understands that the IMAX format is much more immersive than 3D will ever be
Amen!
Absolutely, Scorsese and Spielberg are clearly rubbish.
You said it brotha!
Thank You Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. I will be seeing this at Universal City in LA.
This is a disappointingly short list of theaters. The Dark Knight’s prologue played on way more screens. I guess in the last four years IMAX has switched many of those screens from 70mm projection to their underwhelming digital system. And since WB is only playing this in true 70mm, a lot of folks won’t have the opportunity to see it. Such a shame.
Any info on international presentations? I am in South Korea. It probably doesn’t matter because I don’t think they have a “real” IMAX in this whole country, it is all the fake digital IMAX.
Check this link:

And look for the “1570″ next to whatever theater is near you. It looks like there’s a single theater in Seoul that might show it.
Thanks for the link. I think I kind of know where that is, you can’t miss that skyscraper on the train ride into Seoul, but I’m not quite sure how to get to it. Plus right now they are showing a documentary, so I’m not even sure if they even show more commercial films.
Sucks most IMAX theatres are the Mini-Max theatres now. At least Nolan recognizes that those theatres suck.
Please, please, please don’t pay to see MI:GP just because you wanna see Batman. People might think we like Tom Cruise movies… and make MORE. (Shudder)
Good point! The cinemas will have the signs up: No Refunds!
MI3 was the best of the series and so far MI4 looks like it could top the 3. Plus Cruise usually makes good movies more often than not.
Agreed. The guy may be crazy as hell, but he usually makes good movies. Plus, after his role in Tropic Thunder, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that the movie will at least be watchable.
No way, Shaun. The first one, like most movie franchises, is the best one.
Hey, I like the first one, just thought the 3rd had a slightly more coherent plot (and judged against the second one, at least the third had a plot.)
“IMAX is the most immersive film making tool available”. If that wasn’t a sly dig at 3D, I don’t what is.
That’s a shockingly low number of theatres. I live in Rochester, NY and we’ve had a true 70mm IMAX here since 1997. Buffalo has one as well. Both theatres ran the Dark Knight prologue too.
I would hope the list will be a little longer in two weeks.
I’m from Chili, Jim – minutes away from Tinseltown. Was very excited for a second that maybe we’d be able to see this …
IMAX is the future. 3D can literally go to hell.
I concur!
I just can’t understand why there isn’t one theater in all of Colorado that’s going to be showing this, you’d think WB wants people to get excited for their movie. Maybe they’ll expand it to the rest of the real IMAX theaters that are digital.
Which will be real IMAX and which will just be IMAX-brand?
“Prologue”?
Is this new footage, or just 6 minutes from the film?
Preview and prologue are not the same thing….
Probably means the first six minutes of the film…which could be a prologue?
Surprised there is no San Diego on this list.
People, it’s just a movie. I’m sure we’ll all be distracted with other twaddle before next July, so don’t get all in a lather about it.
This is horseshit!! TDKR started and filmed OVER 2 MONTHS here in Pittsburgh, PA and we have IMAX – B.S!!
We don’t have 70mm anymore, so we can’t have it. It’s very disappointing.
Just watch it on Youtube the following day for FREE folks.. Besides, I’m not feeling this movie at all and certainly nothing like how the Dark Knight was with a more recognizable villain and I’ll bet this ends up being a disappointment, but batfans won’t admit it.. The AVENGERS is going to kill this movie next summer..
Some states don’t even HAVE an Imax film theater. Bad idea to shoot half a film in. He should have shot it in either normal 70mm, which there are still a lot of projectors around for and is much cheaper than Imax and more practical, or, better yet, Maxivision 48, which is superior to Imax and only a $20,000 retrofit per exisiting 35mm projector. MV48 is actually the ONLY format that can theoretically even project The Hobbit in 5k 48fps 3D.
