Aaron Sorkin’s HBO Series Gets New Title?
The Newsroom. That is the official title of Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO drama series, once known as More As This Story Develops. The new title made its debut in HBO’s just- released end-of-year trailer (video below), which highlights the network’s 2011 series and movies as well the upcoming attractions for 2012, including The Newsroom, represented by several frames, the first footage from the show to be released by HBO. Sorkin’s series has been without a title for the past couple of months though speculation about Newsroom being the top choice surfaced early this month following a post on TVNewser. At the time, the title had not been cleared. Its variation, The Newsroom, was confirmed by HBO as the official title today. The Newsroom stars Jeff Daniels as the anchor of a primetime program on a cable news network; Emily Mortimer as his new executive producer; Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel and Thomas Sadoski as newsroom staffers; and Sam Waterston as the network’s president. They were joined recently by Jane Fonda, who signed on for a recurring role as the CEO of the network’s parent company.

Did they have to clear it with The Newsroom restaurant on Robertson?
Hilarious. Probably the only good Canadian television show in the last 20 years is called “The Newsroom”. I bet they’re not too happy with this.
They can always call it Murphy Brown. Oh wait…
I loved that show. Really funny — like The Office set in a broadcast news office.
There have been a lot of good — even great — Canadian TV series in the last 20 years, but yes, Ken Finkleman’s CBC series The Newsroom, which aired on PBS in the US, really shouldn’t have its title stolen. I wonder if HBO simply doesn’t care because it is not like they are ripping off an American show’s title.
Titles are re-used all the time, especially when it’s something generic like “Friends” or “Hunter” or “The Good Life” or “The Newsroom”.
And could we retire McAllister as a TV surname? It was used as the last name of Jack and Bobby, the unsuccessful West Wing meets The WB show of which Tommy Schlamme was an executive producer, and then was also the senator character Rob Lowe played on Brothers and Sisters — a Greg Berlanti homage to his previous work.
@TM – Don’t be silly. The only good Canadian television show in the last 20 years was “Slings & Arrows.”
I feel like we’re forgetting The Kids in the Hall here.
Beyond being a colossal dick move, it’s also one that’s just completely uninspired. Finkleman’s “The Newsroom” (1996, then 2003-2004) racked up an international Emmy and widespread critical acclaim. You’d think HBO and Sorkin would attempt something remotely more original…hell, maybe this is HBO’s subtle way at getting back at Finkleman for lifting the “Curb” format for “Good Dog”. Not impressed.
Good Dog aired on HBO Canada, so probably not.
DeGrassi!
HBO’s slate: Damn, that’s a lot of content.
Incredible achievement to have kept up the level of quality content for INTELLIGENT ADULT AUDIENCES for so many years.
I see he’s sticking with the “Network” motif. UBS.
Terrible title I’m bored already. Why Not :
1.According to Blog All news arrives from some blogger.
2.NewsCorpse Newscorp hacked the world and killed us all.
3.Snewz TV I don’t know.
Btw huge AS fan so here’s hoping no religion. It makes for bad TV…
Yet another reason to cancel HBO.
Yes, I get very upset by lackluster titles, too. I’m considering shaving off my eyebrows.
Who cares what the name of the show is?
I care about the writing.
Please more “The Social Network” and less “Studio 60″.
Will certainly give this a shot!
So Jane Fonda and Aaron Sorkin.
I see a few Drudge links in the near future…
I just finished rewatching Studio 60 (all 22 episodes). If this is half as good (and with AS, you know it will be), I will be signing up for HBO again.
