A&E Network has teamed with Homicide alums Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson for The Box, a half-hour cop drama that takes place largely within the walls of the interrogation room. The cable network has ordered two scripts from the project, which will be written by Fontana. The Box features a small ensemble of detectives as they interrogate the key suspect or witness in a case. The spine of each half-hour episode will be the verbal dance between cop and suspect in “the box,” with the complete story of the crime, the investigation and the legal hurdles woven into and around the interrogation. The project expands on a key element from Homicide, where plots often pivoted on what the series called “The Box,” a sterile, rectangular interrogation room where suspects were brought in for questioning. “The Box takes the most thrilling scene of a crime procedural and puts it at center stage in a unique format,” said Bob DeBitetto, President and General Manager of A&E Network and BIO Channel. If picked up to series, the project would be produced by Arvin Brown (NCIS), George Stelzner as well as UTA-repped Fontana and Levinson through their The Levinson/Fontana Co. In addition to The Box, Fontana and Levinson recently set up Musketeers 3.0, a cop drama centered on a rookie cop, at the CW, which Fontana is writing as well as executive producing with Levinson.

I love this idea…!! Congrats, Tommy (and Barry.)
Procedural cop show that has a twist that makes it still a procedural cop show.
Fabulous idea. Some of the most compelling scenes on Homicide occurred in the interrogation room. That was a very long time ago and they’re still with me. Actors will be jumping all over this one. Can’t wait to see who they cast.
So basically this is IN TREATMENT with cops. Actually not a bad idea. I’d watch.
for all the love that (justifiably) gets showered on shows like ‘The Wire’ these days, i wish more people had seen or will go back and watch ‘Homicide’ – amazing show.
Amen. I’ve been re-watching it now. Loved it then and love it even more now. Excited to watch this. Can we bring back Bayliss and Pembleton? They were the best in ‘the box’.
Doesn’t this kind of interrogation session form the climax/denouement of “The First 48″?
“Perry Mason in the precinct”.
Sounds like back to the future..Remember those old cop movies where the suspect is at a bare table in a dark cigarette smoke filled room where the only light is from the lamp shining in his face and he’s answering questions from a menacing cop he can barely see.
I got to be honest – I’m sick of cop shows but this sounds really cool.
Great pedigree, really cool concept — definitely going to be watching this.
Brilliant concept. Those are my favorite scenes from Homicide. Any chance Andre Braugher is in the cast? I miss his acting in the box most of all.
Anybody ever see the 1998 Australian movie called The Interview with Hugo Weaving as the suspect being interrogated by Tony Martin and Aaron Jeffery? Sounds pretty much like these guys saw it… not really a new concept. It has been done before.
Looks like they’re taking all of Pemberton’s interrogation scenes from Homicide and making a whole new show out of them. Talk about recycling. I’m like the above posters, why not go the whole way and bring back Pemberton and Bayliss too? What year is this again?
Hmmm… perhaps one of these esteemed producers took a trip to South Africa and caught reruns of:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0487000/
Anyone know where you can find the dvd’s for all seasons of “Homicide”?
I thought I was tired of cop shows and then I saw The Wire.
