Alan Moore, whose graphic novels V For Vendetta, Watchmen and League Of Extraordinary Gentleman have been turned into major movies, has joined the roster of Occupy Comics, a group of comic book and graphic novel artists and writers joining to support the Occupy protests nationwide. He joins his V For Vendetta collaborator David Lloyd, who came aboard last week. (The coalition, which numbers 53 artists to date, also includes The Walking Dead‘s Charlie Adlard.) Occupy Comics is creating new art and stories inspired by the protesters and has already raised $15,000 on crowd-funding site Kickstarter; the plan is to roll out a series of digital comics early next year, followed by limited-edition paper comics and then a hardbound collectable book. Moore will contribute a longform prose piece with illustrations, with Lloyd also offering up original art. All profits and payments will go to the Occupy movement, the group says. One artist who won’t be joining this group, or forking over a donation: Sin City‘s Frank Miller, who on his own website railed against Wall Street protesters for being “nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness.”

and I’m trying to figure out which of the Miller points isn’t true…
So what will these comics be? Panel after panel of greasy losers banging drums and smoking doobies whilst chanting trite cliches?
Amen, Frank Miller.
Give ‘em hell, Frank!
Moore drives corporations bugfuck. He’s refused to have his name on or accept payment for films based on Watchmen, V For Vendetta, and Constantine.
I wish more people would come out and agree with Frank. Alan Moore has always been a hack. Aren’t Marvel and DC big corporations? He wants to see them go under? He wants more writers and authors to lose their jobs? I still don’t get OWS is deemed so awesome and grande, yet the Tea Party was demonized. It seems like both parties wanted the same thing, only Tea Party was much more peaceful and informed. Oh yea, and the Tea Party proved their point and spoke where it mattered the most; the voting booth.
We can only hope that Occupy results in a viable third party that presents an alternative to the corrupt two-party system.
Agreed. But…isn’t it safe to say that 99% of OWS is left winged Democrats? A third party would be sweet, but doubt these guys could get any more ground than the “evil” Tea Party did. Haven’t you noticed that Obama and Pelosi have already adopted OWS?
Alan Moore a hack? Gee, did Alan Moore foist “The Spirit” on us? Have you even read “Holy Terror”
Alan Moore is a hack and the tea party is more informed? Hilarious.
What’s so funny? Tea Party at least had a message. You ask anyone in OWS what they want and you get a mish mash of ideas. They also made changes by voting, not doing sit-ins inside of banks and stopping traffic. And no, I am not a Tea Party member or follower, just making an observation. Tea Party and OWS are both pretty much the same thing, only the liberal media demonized one while praising the other.
And yea, Alan Moore is a hack. Between him and Miller, who wrote better, more entertaining books? Moore is so artistic that he thinks everything anyone else writes is garbage, yet people can only point to a handful of books the dude has written. He practically hates Watchmen now because so many people like it. How anti-establishment is THAT?
OWS has a message, if you pay attention you might learn what it is. There hasn’t been an election cycle yet for OWS to be active in but one of the movement’s contributor, Elizabeth Warren, is about to boot Scott Brown’s ass out of the senate. More will follow. And OWS and the Tea Party don’t want the same things. The Tea Party was a group that supported the Bush tax cuts, including the wealthiest Americans. That is not what OWS is about. The Tea Party wanted less regulation for the banks. Again, opposite of OWS. The Tea Party wants to repeal the health care bill. Another difference. You don’t know what you are talking about when you say they both want the same thing. That’s nonsense.
And Alan Moore is not a hack. He wanted his comics to exist in only that medium, not in film, not in TV. Just comics and if DC was going to go ahead and sell the rights for film he wanted nothing to do with it and would not take a cent. That’s not a hack. And he has written some of the best comics ever. Watchmen was great but The Killing Joke is among the best Batman comics ever. I’m sorry, you are just wrong on every level all I can do is laugh.
Hahaha. Keep on laughing then. Come November you will see that OWS did nothing but embarrass themselves. They will try to re-elect the current campaigner in chief. The same guy who has been scratching the back of big business and banks since he’s been in office. That right there proves they don’t know what they want. The Tea Party message was clear, limited government. It seems like OWS wants more government (hand outs), yet government is the one creating all these problems (Bailouts, Freddie and Fannie). What OWS really stands for is punishing those who work hard an succeed. Tea Party held peaceful rallies while OWS bum rushes and shouts down anyone who has an (R) next to their names. They act like children and it is embarrassing. The only reason they still get attention is because the liberal media wants to push their agenda. I hope all those protesters get frostbite in the streets this Xmas. Losers.
By the way, I noticed in your entire rant, you never once mentioned what the OWS message was! Hahaha. What do they want? How do they plan on changing anything? Typical liberal, instead of having a discussion, all you do is talk about what the OTHERS are doing that is so wrong. Good argument.
