Benderspink has optioned Turf, the Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards creation published by Image Comics. Set in the 1920s Prohibition Era New York, the comic blends gangsters with vampires and aliens fighting for turf. Ross is the often controversial radio and TV host in Britain, and Edwards has created artwork on titles including Hellboy, Daredevil and concept art for films like The Book Of Eli. Benderspink is producing the Steve Carell-Jim Carrey comedy Burt Wonderstone and The Last Man at New Line, and Undying Love at Warner Bros. WME repped the sale.

I thought that the lesson was learned when “Cowboys and Aliens” came out…sounds like a waste of time.
That was COWBOYS. This is GANGSTERS. Makes all the difference in the world, for godsakes. Maybe Pacino or De Niro will do the Harrison Ford part.
CIK!–(Coffee in Keyboard).
They used to look for new material, interesting voices. Oh, how far they’ve fallen. Now it’s about trying so hard to get on the band wagon. They’re like the toy dog hanging off the packed wagon. Oy.
Turf is far better written and illustrated than Cowboys & Aliens. It would provide a stronger basis for an adaptation.
who at WME sold it?
Reminds me of the “Suicides” my friends and I used to drink when we were teenagers. Take little bits of every liquor in parents’ cabinet, blend, and drink. Always tasted like crap and usually induced vomiting.
this business is being run by geeks whose only life experiences have been consuming popular culture since they could crawl. if something doesn’t hit those reference points it’s lost on them. aliens and vampires in a prohibition crime story? be honest with yourselves — this idea is really stupid.
Agreed. If cowboys, Indians and aliens didn’t work in live-action, why would gangsters, vampires and aliens?
Vampires, aliens, zombies, robots, dinosaurs—I’m tired of ALL of them!
I hope they make this movie soon. It sounds awesome!
