Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly just got a nice Christmas gift, landing his first interview with former President Bill Clinton. It will air during The O’Reilly Factor next Tuesday. O’Reilly had been pursuing Clinton since he launched The Factor 15 years ago. On CBS’ Late Show With David Letterman in October, O’Reilly said that “there are only two guys that wouldn’t come on, we’ve got everybody else — Clinton and (Dick) Cheney.” Asked by Letterman about a potential Clinton appearance, O’Reilly said, “we’re negotiating; I would love to have him.” He just got his wish, with the two Bills set to discuss the Obama administration, the Republican presidential campaign and Clinton’s new book, Back to Work, among other topics, in their first sit-down. With Clinton booked, former Vice President Dick Cheney now remains the only holdout. Why wouldn’t he talk to O’Reilly? “He thinks I’m a punk,” the Fox News anchor told Letterman.

Should be an interesting conversation. I actually like both of these guys.
I couldn’t figure out why he would refuse for all those years then suddenly do a 180 until I read this “with the two Bills set to discuss…….Clinton’s new book”
Funny how the top rated cable news show suddenly becomes appealing when you have a new book coming out.
You know it’s bad when Darth Cheney shows more sense than Bill Clinton. Lordy, so tired of the media circus.
To quote well-known Political Consultant Admiral Ackbar, “IT’S A TRAP!”
I love Bill C, but I can’t stand Billo. Won’t be watching.
So maybe Bill C. should’ve chosen to be interviewed by Al Sharpton? What about Daffy Duck? Animal from The Muppets?
Bill can choose to be interviewed by whomever he wants. Last I checked, I was also free to choose whether or not to watch. In this case, I choose not.
Clinton’s going to school Billo. Should be fun.
Yeah, but Billo will spend a month afterwards claiming HE schooled Clinton (not to mention showing re-edit clips to “prove” O’Reilly came out on top).
Can’t stand Bill O- he’s an obnoxious narcissist in love with the sound of his own voice- that said, I do think this is a smart move by Clinton.
Not just for the sales of his book, but b/c so much of the Fox audience is locked inside their own sound bubble and Clinton is one of the few people who could actually break through some of their programming dogma about the Obama administration and the Republican views on the world and economy, and then he can begin to make the case that 4 more years of Obama is a far, far better choice than four years of a Republican President, House and Senate- the last time we had that we embarked on two failed and expensive wars, an economic policy that favored corporate, uber-rich portions of society, allowed industry interest groups to basically write their own regulations (anyone remember the disaster in the Gulf- that’s a perfect example of what pro-business, less regulations leads to) and took a budget surplus in 2000-2001 and blew it up with foolish tax cuts (they were never tax cuts- they just shifted the debt load from taxpayers to the large institutional investors and foreign governments who bought our t-bills to pay for our wars and new drug entitlement- if Bush had any honor he would have asked Americans to pay for the wars and those expensive new benefits, but he had no stomach for actually asking Americans to do the right thing and now we are paying for it).
Anyway, Clinton is one of the best at communicating these complex issues and tying them all together in a way that will resonate with at least a portion of the Fox audience who might pause the next time they hear Mitt or Newt saber rattling about a new war with Iran or more tax cuts for those poor millionaires (the so-called job creators- and hey, I’m all for cutting taxes for people who actually create jobs, but most of these people are earning fat dividends on capital gains that are only taxed at 15% and couldn’t care less about starting a new business or investing in a new business unless it is located overseas) or less “burdensome” regulations that we as a nation have grown to expect, you know, like food safety, environmental reviews to protect air and water and all the rest. Clinton will make the case and if anything, will end up getting some percentage of viewers to re-think their support for a Republican nominee. They might not support Obama, but they might just stay home. Expect a lot more of these kinds of interviews over the next year since Clinton is still the big dog.
Totally agree re: Bill O’s love with his own voice, but MAAAAN, could you have made your comment in under 10,000 words? Hypocritize much? (And yes, counsel, I DO understand that “hypocritize” is not a real word.)
Gotta laugh at the lefties and their blissful ignorance. They bow at the alter of Al Sharpton and Chris Mathews and see them as viable journalists.
Focus, Jessey. The story is about Bill Clinton and Bill-O.
I would imagine Sharpton and Mathews and most of us lefties can spell “altar,” however…
Bill Clinton is one of the smartest men on the planet and the best in the world at communicating ideas. I imagine even with a heavily edited interview, he’ll still get his thoughts out. He’ll present them in a safe, common sense way. Even if the audience disagrees, hopefully they’ll disagree on the merit of the ideas and not because of the person speaking them.
A Deviant interviewing a Deviant…I guess FOX is Fair & Balanced after all!
>”…former Vice President Dick Cheney now remains the only holdout. Why wouldn’t he talk to O’Reilly? “He thinks I’m a punk,” the Fox News anchor told Letterman.<
Damn–you mean I have to give Cheney credit for something? *mutter, pfit!*
They deserve each other…
As a libertarian who can’t stand Obama and simply consider him the best of the worst in ’12, longs for the days of Clinton and agrees with Bill O’s points more than his presentation style and attitude I can’t wait to watch this.
