Those with long memories will recall that this was the name the network used for its morning show in 1987, when it featured Harry Smith, Kathleen Sullivan, and Mark McEwan. That moniker lasted until 1999. Interesting that there’s no mention of the name’s heritage in CBS’ announcement regarding the program that will replace The Early Show:
CBS News has named its new morning broadcast CBS THIS MORNING. The broadcast, hosted by Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Erica Hill, will premiere on Monday, Jan. 9 (7:00-9:00AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Chris Licht, Vice President, Programming, CBS News, is the Executive Producer of CBS THIS MORNING.
John Miller will join the broadcast as Senior Correspondent; Rebecca Jarvis will serve as Business and Economics Correspondent; and Jeff Glor will serve as Special Correspondent

There must be some money to make in these morning programs because quite honestly I can’t see why CBS keeps trying to do “revamp” their morning show.
If Charlie and Gayle don’t work CBS should just sell the time-slot for infomercials.
I just hope it works somehow. I love Charlie Rose because of his great talk show and interviewing skills and and Gayle King because she is witty, sweet and something of fantastic. I applaud CBS for trying something different that people really want in the morning (no fluff or Kardashian crap), and I know there will be viewers that won’t be watching for unknown reasons (or stupid excuses) (they’ll come around), but I hope that like The Early Show, this can be a long-term morning show that can be around for years to come.
CBS should infomercials and religous programming like (e.g. Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland).

A turd by another other name would still stink… They have been “revamping” the CBS morning news show for as long as I can remember. Why do they keep trying to reinvent the wheel? And each time, it’s the same story. And, correct me if I am wrong. Wasn’t the show just “revamped” when dumped Harry Smith???
Despite that, I do like the choice of Rose and King. It could be good, but taking a job on the CBS morning news show seems like a risky career move. The revamps and hosts never last long before being re-revamped and replaced.
And how did Gayle manage to pull this off and get out from under Oprah without feeling her wrath?

I’m sorry haters but CBS brought the world 60 minutes and when I heard about this REAL REVAMP I stood up and cheered! This is a chance to get away from Kris Jenner and Susan Boyle et al and have REAL MORNING PROGRAMMING. I think CBS might really create something out of their DEAD morning show. Oh and I’m sure Oprah was happy for Gayle.
It was a ridiculous move to lose Harry and try to make it seem ‘younger’ with thirty-something presenters. Did you learn nothing from the Oscars debacle? Does anyone in Marketing do research? Younger adults do NOT watch morning news shows… they get their info online. Well, maybe you finally caught on, because the new hosts are definitely over their thirties.
Amazing that they keep the one person from the original hosts that has the least talent, talks a mile a minute, and is just fake. I can still recall her delivering a tragic story about a child’s death, then instantly breaking into a broad smile to read the next story.
Harry gave the show a real presence… I look forward to seeing what he does with NBC. Chris Wragge was entertaining in a fun, low key way – too bad I am no longer in the NYC area to see his news broadcasts.
Good luck Charlie and Gayle, but I’ve had enough…. I’m forty-something, and moving to online news…

AGREE! I canNOT stand Gayle King, no talent, only recognizable because of Oprah and hanging on to her coattails. Chris Wagge was terrific and the only person they kept really doesn’t have any talent and is fake…yuk this “new” revamped show sounds dreadful…i’m sticking to Today Show for sure.
I miss Harry Smith. He did do hard hitting news when allowed to. He has class, with charm and style, and he has one off the BEST sets of interview skills in the business. The Today show lost me when they wasted my time with that Anna Nicole Smith death thingy. Who cares. I want NEWS and insight. The world is a complex and always evolving place. I am tired of time wasting fluff and brainless pretty people who waste my time. Harry was why I loved CBS. Perhaps i will turn on my radio in the morning instead of the TV. Hello NPR.
I agree that the show started on a downward spiral when Harry and his coanchor were edged out.Then they took something that worked..like Chris Wagge and Erica Hill and screwed that up. I also agree with the others…will be getting my news online. I mean what were they thinking? Charlie Rose and Gayle King. They might as well have gotten Betty White…at least she’d be funny!

I had already switched to CBS in the morning — GMA seems to be all about the stars (dancing or otherwise) and Today often left me saying yuck. I enjoyed the CBS team of Erica, Jeff and Chris — so glad Erica will stay around and Jeff will be around but will miss Chris. Erica seemed real comfortable this morning — not so much for Gail and Charlie — good luck!
I’ve been watching CBS Morning news since I can Remember but since Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriquez and Dace Price left its like waking up to a long cold uneventful day ahead. Chris Wragge and Erica Hill was exceptionally also ( with the exception of Marygastol? who really sucked)Jeff Glor is very nice. Now you got Charlie Rose and Gayle King Really You might as well bring in Vince Mcmahon and Stonecold Steve Austin to host the Morning Show They would have more followers than the clowns you have now. Looks like its off to Abc for me. Been nice knowing you.
Have loved the laid back realness of the early show…not stiff and boring like most…have watched for years! My husband and I loved the Saturday show with erica and chris wish u could’ve keep their realness and humor during the week…not happy with it now! Don’t like gayle she seems fake n cheesy…erica seems like her real personality is being stuffed away!
