EXCLUSIVE: GBTV, Glenn Beck’s live streaming video network, has picked up its first reality series, Independence U.S.A. The show, which will premiere January 18 and air on Wednesdays, follows Frank Belcastro and his family as they try to become completely independent and self-sufficient and prepare for life “off the grid” in case of a major calamity like an economic collapse or a natural disaster. Belcastro’s projects include building a car that runs on wood in case gasoline supplies are interrupted, becoming an expert hunter when grocery stores are no longer in existence, and making his own alcohol for barter when the dollar collapses. “Independence U.S.A. is the perfect way for GBTV to enter the reality genre and promises to be an entertaining and informative look at how one family tries to 
grapple with their concerns for America,” said Joel Cheatwood, President of Programming at GBTV. The deal for Independence U.S.A. comes on the heels of GBTV’s pact with animation production company Icebox to jointly develop an animated comedy series. Anchored by Beck’s two-hour daily talk show, which airs live from 5-7 PM, GBTV’s lineup also includes Liberty Tree House and the comedy news show The B.S. of A. As a GBTV subscriber I’m excited about all the new content being added to GBTV lineup. This addition is no exception. One question though… Wasn’t this same show on the History channel in November as Apocalypse PA?
Yeah, that appears to be the case. I only ever saw the pilot on History (over the summer) and my TiVo reported there were no other episodes.
I hate the fact that this looks mildly entertaining.

You make a good point, however, it can be intelligently made without the crude language. Such language diminishes your argument; making it appear to be sophmoric.

The degradation of “normal” speech into foul profanity is a symptom of the decline of today’s society. Just go to the beach in San Diego on any 3 day weekend and all you hear is the F-word echoing all over the place. I will not take my grandkids there. I have been guilty of severe potty mouth but after my experience in San Diego I had to take an honest look at what is going on and I felt very ashamed. Quitting the habit is very difficult but have to do it as I am an example to my grandkids.

Will the series have anything to do with the Bible’s book of Revelation? It seems more and more survival-type reality shows are emerging. Perhaps these are more or less DIY instructions for when the things of Revelations unfold… Jussayin.
Sounds like a great idea to me. If a collapse comes, and it could come several ways, it would be interesting to see some of you “eat crow”, if you can find a crow to eat.
Why make fun of Glenn Beck? He’s honest, and standing up for what he believes in. And we who believe in the Bible, know something like this is coming at some point. Unless these days are shortened, no flesh will be saved alive.
Go to youtube almost every thing you want to know it found there. You can find 3 or 4 way to do anything.
This is a good idea for a show. I would also suggest one that is more “how to do it.” For instance, how and where to set up a survival base, how to get out of the city, how to set up a ham radio to stay in contact with the rest of the world, how to set up a solar panel. There is a need for “grad and go” lessons that most of us who don’t have a lot of money or land can use to get out of town and connect with like minded people or set up on our own.
Is it just me, or do these people seem like poorly trained actors? Certainly, they’re poorly cast reality stars. Then again, you could make the same assumptions about Glenn Beck. Hmm.

I am so glad someone picked up this show. It was entertaining and got you thinking. It never hurts to be prepared for an emergency and its nice to know you can be of aid in a crisis.
This is going to be awesome! Way to go GBTV for grabbing on to this gem, I know we will enjoy the humor as well as the seriousness behind it. Can hardly wait!

Cool idea Glenn. I’m clearing my land this month and looking to do the same thing, but just for fun. These people ain’t crazy. I think the rest of America should at least pick up one or two survival points. Just in case…….right? Keep swinging brother, the fight for what’s right ain’t over yet.
i hate hunting, especially by amateurs and those using bows and arrows. It’s just cruel. Anyway, if people are thinking that survivalist shows like this is going to teach them how to live during the tribulation, think again. The Bible clearly states that water will be polluted and undrinkable, that there will be such horrendous droughts and natural disasters, along with animals/fish/birds will die for no apparent reason, how are they going to be able to drink and eat? Besides there is so much technology even now, that no one will be able to hide from the antichrist. **sighs** Folks just better prepare their souls now instead of waiting to see what is going to happen.

Glenn Beck has officially “Jumped the Shark”, for me. I had been a fan of his from his beginnings as just a radio show host. I’m done. Now this show? He doesn’t pray for our country. He prays that all this crap comes true so he can be proven RIGHT at all costs, I assure you. And who watched his so-called Christmas show today on GBTV? Crying, old stories from people about Joplin and that town in NJ that overthrew their govmt. And church songs that were none of them Christmas carols. Yep, he’s jumped the shark. I am done.
This is a subject that is on nearly everyone’s mind. That is, those with a mind. Anyone who listens to the news and also thinks can see that the world and most governments are seriously in trouble. I don’t care which perspective you see it from, there is trouble brewing out there. And, as the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
Great idea!!! I have a neighbor who is off the grid. Very cool setup with wind turbines and solar. He’s ready if the grid collapses and in the meantime, saving lots of money over paying the utility company!
