Christopher Nolan’s third (and final) installment of his Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises, opens July 20, 2012, but it’s never too early to get amped up for it. This first trailer, released today via iTunes, is a very promising start to what will be a ton of hype for the Warner Bros/Legendary tentpole. Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy star.

The bit with the football field was ridiculously bad.
Nah. It looks ridiculously good, particularly this early on.
I didn’t mean CGI bad. I meant bad bad. Stupid bad. Ludicrous bad.
Agreed. He turns at the end as if he hadn’t heard the hundreds of explosions behind him.
agreed. those scenes look so horrible.
Darn, if only Nolan had you folks there to advise him. Crap! We’re all screwed!
Agreed. He really could use some advice when it comes to shooting comprehensible action and learning about how movies should be edited in terms of pacing and spacial relationships.
Hilarious! And true ShnDvd
I concur. the football shit doesn’t fit the world…
Yeah, it’s like looking at an HR Giger painting, then suddenly a slide of somebody’s vacation pops up.
We figured the sports scene would be upsetting to the sit-on-our-ass-and-do-nothing nerd fanbase but we went ahead with it anyway.
The film is absolutely awesome, it’s going to make ATLEAST 1.5 billion worldwide and the summer of 2012 is starting to sound fun.
A simple “Thank You” would be nice…
haha… AWESOME. i loved everything about this trailer, they didn’t even need footage from the prologue for it. =)
Nah — never been behind any version of batman. They all suck…
Wish Nolan would use his 15 minutes on original shit. Redoing the bat is so fuckin’ Schumacher.
15 minutes???
Should I call you troll or Mr. SOAR? You hate “any version of batman” yet you’ve seen the Shumacher sequels.
Someone’s craving a little attention.
i had to replay Bane’s dialogue 3 times to understand what he said
more like Mumbles
from Dick Tracy.
YES! That is going to annoy me during the movie. Now I have to go watch it in a theater that has good sound.
When I saw Inception I accidentally went into a screening for the hearing-impaired which included subtitles. I might actually seek one of those out this time.
He had one line and it’s pretty easy to understand
Yes! It kind of sounded like Dr. Claw from the Inspector Gadget cartoons NOT GOOD!
would be hilarious if Batman said…..
WHAT? I COULDN’T UNDERSTAND YOU.
Exactly. And generic.
Hey I LOVE this series and that football scene concept is ass
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
NOLAN WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
This is going to be so epic and awesome my head might just explode.
Yeah, this movie might make a little bit of money ….
yes plz!
Could be fun…. honestly, though, can we admit we’re tired of the obvious CGI (Heinz field) – not good, Chris. And what is that guy in the mask saying? How come we can’t understand him?
You mean Batman? He sounded like that the last movie…LOL
I assume you are joking because if you can’t understand what Bane is saying in this trailer you best see a doctor about your hearing. Nw, I can’t speak to the prologue as I haven’t seen it.
Saw this at Sherlock Holmes over the weekend, the audience actually clapped and cheered. I found that comforting in the wake of the box office slump. If you build it WELL, they will come.
“When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die.”
Hines Ward can’t outrun defenses and score touchdowns like that Mr. Nolan.
Why is the kid singing the National Anthem in a British accent?
I thought Madonna was doing the Super Bowl half-time show.
Most of the main actors in Nolan’s Batman movies are British.
That could also be why they’re so AMAZEBALLS.
213 days, it’ll be worth the wait. {: D
Not bad. But will we get subtitles for Bane’s dialogue?
“When Gotham is ashes — something something something?”
I think this movie’s gonna be great — but I couldn’t understand one damn thing Bane said in the preview.
Get a new computer.
You need to clean out your ears dude…it was perfectly audible for someone who wears a mask!
Ironic that Anne is the element here everyone is second-guessing, but she was my favorite part of the trailer.
Mine too. I don’t know about Bane being unintelligible though. Bat-fans say he’s like that in the comic books, but in a movie it would be a bit strange.
Surprisingly, yes. She was somewhat eery in the pre, solid.
I’m in.
The football pitch collapsing could be a Brett Ratner or Michael Bay movie. Just terrible. Otherwise I’m really digging the mood. Very different to the last two Bat films. In a weird way this one feels closer in tone to Tim Burton’s Batman.
Yeah…and it’s just the CGI of the football fielding collapsing (though it is bad). It’s as if we’re stupid enough to believe that the player with the ball didn’t hear or feel anything as he’s running five feet from the explosions. If we’re lucky, that will be a dream sequence and it will all make sense.
That said, I’m very much looking to the rest of the film.
I meant to say, “…and it’s NOT just the CGI…”
Got to admit, I was underwhelmed by the trailer.
I agree. I loved TDK and love Nolan, but it seems that the more I see of this movie, the less excited I am. The football scene was really bad.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m gonna watch this movie probably more than once but it doesn’t get me all hot and bothered like the TDK previews.
Bane looks cool, but Catwoman…meh…can’t say I’m as excited for this one as I was for TDK.
Bane looks over the top. Catwoman looks to be smart. So I would go in the opposite direction of what I am now anticipating.
Awesome trailer for Inception Part 2, I can’t wait.
Christopher Nolan and Team are just awesome. It’s more film than anything the art house has produced in ages.
Trailers rarely really nail the movie perfectly. I am sure once your in the theater the film will suck you in completely and everything you thought you had a problem with the trailer disappears.
Surprisingly, Anne Hathaway pulled-off a very effective Selina Kyle ( more so than Halle Berry ) . I love how bitchy, nasty , and cold Hathaway is playing her scenes. Haters are going to hate !
agree. i think she’s flawless as catwoman here, and its odd to read all the negative comments about her with the other problems with the trailer being so glaring.
Because, akaison , people are blinded by hate.
I believed she would be bad too, but approached it with an open mind.
Halle Berry’s Catwoman was not Selina Kyle, it was a character they invented for that movie and just used the Catwoman name.
Anne Hathaway tries, tries and tries… but still can not convince.
said this elsewhere, i am starting to think the problem is not here. its that some of you simply don’t like her so anything she does is an excuse for you to post. because honestly she’s the only thing that works in that trailer.
I’m sure this is going to be great — but what the hell is Bane saying?
after listening three times — I think it’s “when Gotham is ashes…” something something something.
Can anybody make it out?
?
“… you have my permission to die.”
googled it.
Look at you, figuring things out for yourself.
Hey, you don’t get to the A list as a screenwriter without SOME hustle.
The Good = Catwoman
The Bad = British kid singing National Anthem
The Ugly = Ridiculous football field sinking GFX!
They need a football scene to hide that everyone is English.
Yea it’s going to make a boat load of money and it’ll either be not as good, the same, or better than the last.
There’s ALL speculation you’ll need.
Looks great with the exception of Hathaway. Really bad casting to use her.
jesus, how old are you people? that you cant hear what bane is saying.
my gradfather had the same complaint and he’s dead.
really, stop being ridiculous. If you can’t admit that what he said was somewhat difficult to hear, then you’re just being ridiculous.
I’m 26.
Got most of it but had no idea he was saying “you have my permission” until I read it somewhere.
Now of course it sounds obvious, but before…”huh?”
My only complaint about the football field collapsing is that Ward doesn’t celebrate or dance when he reaches the endzone.
He just turns around and drops the ball, as if he had anticipated something happening behind him.
But I agree, I expected the trailer to really WOW. I still look back at the Dark Knight trailers and you get this great sense of character and tension. Here you get a sense of an epic scale but no such emotional depth.
The most unbelievable part of the trailer was Hines Ward breaking a long TD reception…maybe 5 years ago.
Hmmmm. The trailer did nothing for me, and I’m pretty much in for any Batman.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Although I prefer Tim Burton’s “Batman”, I did enjoy the first installment with Christian Bale, and I was looking forward to this “conclusion”, but the trailer just does not impress.
