Meryl Streep is the best, but the more I see of Iron Lady…the less interested. Should see a screening on Saturday, but it is a coin toss right now.
They are way over playing the anticipation aspect of this whole thing. It’s a fine line and they’ve crossed it badly here.
I can’t imagine that this movie will have much of an audience and when it goes up against My Week, it will be crying like a twelve year old girl who’s eaten too much Halloween candy.
So what does someone like Weinstein do when he’s miscalculated to such an extent on this Streep/Williams deal?
Agree.
And Michelle Williams tops the best actress list in My Week, while other female performances will make best actress quite interesting. There is no ‘slam dunk’ this year.
I agree. And Jim Broadbent seems to be hashing out the same old performance: boring, really.
Without question one of the most misleading trailers ever produced. This makes it look like a uplifting drama revolving around Thatcher’s leadership career, the film is not. It revolves around her facing her failed political and family ambitions in her older age. Film is NOT uplifting, not a central drama, it’s retrospective at best.
Look, stop being so negative. Films about the poll tax and John Major are box office dynamite.
long live meryl streep
but as for thatcher……
Whom the gods would destroy, they first make proud.
Mark my word.
Winchell didn’t think it could happen either.
An appalling woman. Brought the UK to its knees and destroyed lives. If the trailer is anything to go by, it’s a whitewash. If you want to see a film about women in British politics, I recommend “Made in Dagenham.”
Feels like a TV movie from this trailer.
Saw it at early screening: it lacked insight, it lacked heart, it lacked controversy. It’s not unpleasant, and Meryl Streep’s performance is everything you expect from her, but it’s a bit boring. Just the story of an old lady, reflecting on her life. I’m not sure who it will appeal to: Thatcher admirers won’t have anything to do with a “Hollywood version” of their idol, and the haters won’t want to spend 2 hours with her. As for the people who don’t have an opinion, they most likely won’t care. Streep will get a nom, but that’s that. Just my 2 cents…
Margaret on the guillotine. Why is this monster being lionized? I am reminded of Streisand turning down the role of Evita (or was it simply not performing the song…) because Evita was a fascist. Sorry Streep – terribly disappointing.
>>Why is this monster being lionized?<<
Because most people don't think she's a "monster". Seriously, why do you liberals have do denounce everyone who has different political views as "evil" or a "monster"?
I love the way Thatcher, God love her, pisses off the Idiot Left even via a surrogate.
Streep is absolutely amazing in the film. Gonna be tough to beat for Best Actress. Viola Davis and Michelle Williams are in the race for what is sure to be a photo finish…
Has anyone else noticed the weird voice saying “everyone else’s”? 1.40 in sounds like the ADR hasn’t been finished properly!!
I consider myself a democrat but why is it that almost every time when hollywood makes a movie about a conservative politican it feels like a stupid parody? This one, W with Josh Brolin, the Reagen series with James Brolin etc.
Its not a parody!!!! The republican party has become a joke itself…so it looks like a parody, but the truth is that they are all a f-ing joke. Those republican debates seem like a reality show, oh wait….they are, isn’t Trump about to host one?
Wait you wanted anything about GW Bush not to be a parody? The man was a walking Saturday Night Live skit. Will Farrel couldn’t give his caricature existence justice. Please….
I agree that any movie that lionizes Thatcher is BS but Meryl’s performance will rock.
Meryl Streep looks like a drag queen in that getup.
I love you Meryl Streep. I want you to have another Oscar… But sorry – you look ridiculous in this trailer and movie. It’s a bad year for biopics. DiCaprio looked ridiculous as Edgar Hoover and Maryl Streep looks laughable as Margaret Thatcher.
And you know what “killed” those performances? Those STUPID ACCENTS. Someone needs to tell people in Hollywood that american actors look ridiculous when they begin speak with fake accents. It’s like – look we know how you speak in real life. And when you try those fake accents then it’s just not believable. We want to see your character but instead we sit and laugh every time you open your mouth.
It’s the same problem I have with “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trailer. Rooney Mara looks all tough and like some supercool badass girl… And then she opens her mouth and speaks with some ridiculous accent and looks very stupid. Like some cheerleader schoolgirl. I can’t taker her character serious.
Are they really trying to make Thatcher look like a heroic faminist? Please.
