Noble Jones, who cut his teeth directing commercials, videos for Taylor Swift and Mary J. Blige, and handling second unit for David Fincher on The Social Network, hopes to make his feature directing debut on an updated low budget remake of American Psycho. Jones, who was Grammy nominated for his documentary 10 Days Out: Blues From the Backroads, is a Fincher protege who pitched the project months ago to Lionsgate, which holds the remake rights. Jones turned in a script about a month ago, but the project has suddenly become buzzed about because it hit the tracking reports that have become the cornerstone of trade reporting. His take was to tap the Bret Easton Ellis novel and turn it into a down and dirty new version that imagines how yuppie serial killer Patrick Bateman would fare in New York today, factoring in how the world has changed since the 2000 film that starred Christian Bale. Noble’s repped by WME and Anonymous Content.

This is a terrible idea.
Hey, whatever it takes to get Noble Jones into features.
Check out his “Indestructible” video for Disturbed.
Really? Why do people have such bad ideas? I hope this remake doesn’t happen
every person hates, hates, hates this idea. I don’t give a fuck if this kid is Jesus Christ’s protege; he’s a fucking idiot for pushing this.
It’s ripe for a remake.
Shia LaBeouf, Zac Efron, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley or Chace Crawford as Patrick Bateman
“Ripe for a remake”? The original came out in 2000!
Jesus I hope that was sarcasm.
Jonah Hill as Patrick Bateman!
“I can eat a thousand now.”
Are you serious? Shia LaBeouuf or Zack Efron? Have you read the book or seen the movie? I can’t even believe that. Christian Bale filed his teeth to show his dedication to this role I can’t see any of those two ‘tween’ heartthrobs showing half of that dedication to a role. This whole remake is just more proof that Hollywood is drying up and hoping that they can keep doing remakes because the teens and tweens haven’t seen the originals so they can pass it off a ‘new’ movie. Their idea of making it original is to set it to modern times. That pretty much blows the entire book out because the book was set during a specific time period for a specific reason. This whole idea is a joke and if they do make it I hope it flops.
How on Earth does this happen? Wasn’t American Psycho a low budget to begin with. Wasn’t it impossible to sell to an audience? Is someone just playing favors?
No no no no no no no…NO!
Low budget is not interchangeable with microbudget. Please be more specific. Is the studio spending less than 200K on this script or not?
Microbudget is under $1 mill. $1-5 is low.
NOOOO! NOOOOOOOOOO!
I’m a huge fan of the novel and the movie but this? No. Just no.
Once again, proof (as if we needed it) that Hollywood is officially creatively bankrupt. Enough with all the stupid remakes please!
Disagree. It’s Hollywood’s faith in the moviegoing public to see an original film that is bankrupt.
ANOTHER remake? I’m going to pitch a remake for Hugo and The Iron Lady.
This makes me cry inside…WHYYY??!!!!
Microbudget and low budget are not interchangeable. Please elaborate. Is the studio planning to spend less than 200K on this picture?
A remake of the best live action film ever made? No.
….just say NO.
Still waiting for the Albert Nobbs remake set in modern day with Hilary Swank
Wasn’t American Psycho 2 with Shatner and Kunis good enough for these people?
In the new version he kills our economy.
Modern Day setting? Defeats the purpose…
It is a terrible idea. The original is underrated and perhaps Christian Bale’s best performance of his career. Given the over top absurdity of the source material it is amazing how well the original ended up. I see no way that this will not be anything but worse or to be so different as to be unrelatable.
I think it is dangerous remaking a well done but only mildly successful film. You risk overshadowing its existence with something inferior. I realize this is going to be a very small budget but I don’t see it. My problem is that this guy saw the movie and thought it could be better.
Not even close to CB’s best. Not even Empire of the Sun good.
This original movie had very little to do with the book. The movie was defanged compared to the book.
Down and dirty? How much dirtier can it get. It’s like remaking the Shining.
It’s been done. Granted, it was a three-part telemovie, and I only watched the first 40 minutes, but it made me want to kick puppies.
Instead of rants on Phil Collins and Huey Lewis, we’ll get watered down comments on John Mayer and Matchbox 20.
A modern take? Yikes…
Do you like Nickleback?
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Dark Horse came out in ’08, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He’s been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Nickelback has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
this is one of the funniest posts i’ve ever read – like this x 1,000,000
YES!!!
Surely this scene will be the first shown in the trailer to the film.
NOOOOO. Please. Don’t do this. I hate you so much. I won’t go out of principle. Please, no.
You think ANYONE can outdo Bale’s performance in that movie. It is like someone trying to outdo Pacino’s Michael Corleone. Psycho had its flaws, but that performance was pitch perfect. You cannot catch that kind of lightening twice.
The Hubris.
Go write something original.
Oh, wait… The excel spreadsheet lovers who now decide what movies get made will only work with “branded titles.”
Hollywood is so over. Movies and cinema is over.
Back to my Xbox, where the real quality entertainment product is.
Not only is it impossible to outdo Bale’s performance, it’s also one of the most imitated performances of that last 10 years. I mean — JEEZ! — a knock-ff of Bateman is in theaters right now — Michael Fassbender is cribbing from Bale in Shame.
i thought to be the one and only to see in Fassbender’s Brandon a low-key Bateman!
This is a joke right? Or direct to video?
Yeah, good luck trying to measure up to Bale in this role! It’s setting a young actor up for failure.
For the LOVE OF GOD … pleaes NO. This is a great movie and I’d do whatever it takes to NOT have Matt Kaplan ruin it.
I can’t stress “NO” enough.
What, so Bateman can kill people out of work, protesting?
It is exactly this kind of soulless (even more than Patrick) enterprise that ENCOURAGES people to download movies illegally. Who would PAY to watch this, or the terrible American Psycho 2?
The original came out swinging, defied expectations and totally rewired Bale’s career. What exactly does this dead end reanimation expect to accomplish? Why not remake ‘Drive’ with Zac Efron?
This is PITIFUL
Let me guess, brainchild of Matt Kaplan. PASS.
