While it is ending veteran soap opera One Life To Live, ABC is keeping 2 of the series’ key players, executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati, who will assume the same positions on ABC’s only remaining daytime drama General Hospital, effective January 9. They replace executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, who had been at the helm of GH for the past decade, and Garin Wolf, who joined the soap this past summer. The move comes a week after Prospect Park announced that it was abandoning its plans to continue the canceled All My Children and One Life To Live online. The company had signed both Valentini and Carlivati to continue on OLTL, with Valentini also getting a top executive position. “Frank and Ron’s creativity, passion and outstanding leadership will be a welcome addition to the cast and crew, as well as viewers and longtime fans,” said ABC Daytime president Brian Frons. Reinforcing General Hospital is important because, with Katie Couric’s new talk show launching in the fall, the soap and new ABC talk shows The Chew and The Revolution will squabble over 2 slots for next season. Valentini is a 26-year OLTL veteran and has served as the show’s executive producer since 2002; Carlivati has been with the soap for 15 years, the last 4 of which as head writer.

Could we see OLTL characters popping up on General Hospital?
I can’t believe they’re they are bringing in OLTL’s cast.,to GH.
It is a big mistake, I stopped watching OLTL two and half years ago.
So we have a writer from OLTL, on GH.,so this explains why it’s happening. But the big writing on the wall is GH will suffer along with OLTL and AMC,,
Simply put,,the cahracters from OLTL do not mesh well with those on GH>
Pitting Star and Todd against Sonny,? come on….really?
So because a head writer is now on GH< or Ex Producer,whatever he does,,has full rein over the show,and can bring in who he wants.
Can't those fine actors and actresses find work else where, These people just don't go well with GH.

The headwriter and EP of OLTL will be moving to GH. So why exactly was OLTL cancelled and GH spared?
I think because GH was more profitable than OLTL.
Actually OLTL is more profitable than GH. Also is the number three in daytime rating well ahead of GH. It’s a mystery to many why OLTL was canceled over the lower rated GH.
When OLTL was cancelled, it had lower ratings than GH. It’s only after the cancellation notice that OLTL started to do better than GH.
Ron did an amazing job writing OLTL. As head writer GH could finally hit its potential. Finally, a good call by Frons.

Given that ABC will reduce it’s weekday daytime schedule by an hour next September, the only way “General Hospital” is going to last beyond that time is if either “The Chew” (which premiered in September), “The Revolution” (due to premiere next month), or “The View” gets cancelled.
While I can’t see “The View” getting axed, should either “Chew” or “Revolution” be dumped, then “GH” will likely stay on the air.
Or could “Chew” and “Revolution” each be cut to 30 minutes next Fall??
Frank and Ron are the only hope for GH.They are the BEST at what they do. Their first order of business should be to dump the whole mobster portion of the show. Second bring some lightness and comedy(a little bit of Roxy) to the show.
They should do everything they can to get Jonathan Jackson back on GH!
GH is not worth watching.OLTL and AMC were so much better.Forget ABC.It’s time to switch to another network to find a soap.Days,B&B or YR?

Brian Frons, the worst thing to happen to daytime TV!! However, if one is friend with Mr. Frons that can help so save a show thus GH. The Chew… spit it out and flush it away!! The Revolution does not look much better. Revolting. I knew Prospect Park would not work it is a part of Disney also. They refuse to sell One Life to Live and All My Children to any other stations. Sad, so sad. Watching soaps slowly die for no good reason even. Think how far back soaps actually go, before Television began… Then comes Frons… hey sounds like a new show…
You are cancelling two of the greatest Soaps in history, you think The Chew and reality TV is great, now that is a waste of TV space, and as for Katie all I can say is bug off. The world is a mess,life is either good or bad for some and having our soaps to watch made our lives better. As for money issues oh come on your think Katie is cheap, or those fat cat chief’s and any less in cost reality TV and these new shows and BOREING, a waste of space and I for one will not watch channel 4 or 7 again I Tape all my soaps I never watch live TV. All I can say is shame on you, you cancel two of the greatest Soaps you every had, I never watch regular TV any more due to all the reality TV, if you think The Chew is less than a soap come on the fat cat chief’s are just that fat and expensive. Pregnant teen agers, good show for a teenager that’s it’s ok to have babys. First off in devastated at the loss of AMC and oltl I’ve Been a fan for many years.th is great please don’t take it of Rio l too in getting to keep oltl on the air. Don’t you dare cancel general hospital. That would mean I won’t watch this network anymore.I think the chew is dumb and won’t watch it. Their are entire channels out there for food. If there was a petition to sign that would change your mind id sign it. Cannot find one in Idaho. My hearty is sad I didn’t get to see last season of AMC. Can I get DVD on it? I would just hate to get only one soap a day and that’s young b and restless. I guess I just will have to give up daytime tv
I am a fan of OLTL and GH. However, if I had to choose between the two shows, I without question, it would be OLTL. The writing is brilliant, the actors superb and they don’t consistently base all the storylines around the same characters. OLTL has been at the forefront of introducing topical subjects into the story (The Billy Douglas AIDS story for one. As a result, other soaps came to participate in A Day of Compassion). And it is the most ethnically, racially and socially diverse show in the ABC Daytime line up. Where else do you see Latin, African-American
and Indian (as in from India) families, interact and have an on going presence? Some of them are blue collar, some are physicians, lawyers, DA’s, artist and of course bad boys/bad girls. BUT OLTL never panders! Here in New York Oprah was on after GH, as it was in many cities, including LA. So would someone explain to me, why Katie Couric can’t be in that same time slot? Brian Scott Frons is a serial killer, that’s why. It is a shame!
Just one question…when will the OLTL characters start on GH? I’m not particularily fond of GH, & don’t want to watch until the OLTL gang gets there.
Why don’t you bring AMC and OLTL BACK TO ABC, but only 3 times a week. Mon., Wed. and Fri. I bet your ratings would go back up. Thank you. Trudy
