Against mostly atypical competition, CBS’ regular Monday lineup dominated every half-hour in its return to originals last night after a week of repeats. ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, a huge draw among total viewers, sucks out (mostly older) audiences from the competition. As they didn’t face Dancing with originals for the first time this season, CBS’ comedies boosted their viewership. How I Met Your Mother (4.5/12 in adults 18-49, 11.7 million total viewers) was up a tenth in the demo vs. two weeks ago and drew its largest audience with a regularly scheduled episode in almost three years. (since January 12, 2009). Rookie 2 Broke Girls (4.6/11, 12.8 million) was flat in 18-49 and logged its largest audience since the premiere, which followed the Ashton Kutcher debut on Two And A Half Men. Speaking of Men (5.0/12, 15 million), it was down two tenths in 18-49 from its last original, while Mike & Molly (4.2/10, 12.8 million) was even. Men ranked as the top program of the night in 18-49 and total viewers, as did CBS as a network. The net’s wins were solidified by Hawaii Five-0‘s 3.0/8 in 18-49, up 7%, and 10.8 million total viewers. In the 10 PM hour, the CBS procedural easily topped ABC’s Castle (2.0/5, 8 million), which was down 13% from its last original two weeks ago to hit a season low. Castle was hurt by its underwhelming lead-in, new game show You Deserve It (1.0/2), which continued its rapid ratings descent, down 29% from last week. ABC’s best ratings came from the holiday specials in the 8 PM hour: A Charlie Brown Christmas (2.8/8, 9.1 million) was up 8% from last year’s telecast in 18-49, while Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice (2.2/6, 7 million) was even with its premiere last year.
Fox pre-empted its Monday dramas for the 2nd Annual American Country Awards (2.0/5, 7.4 million), which was up 33% from last year’s telecast in 18-49 and 23% in total viewers. Fox finished second for the night behind CBS in 18-49 and total viewers. NBC had another Monday to forget with a The Sing-Off holiday special (1.1/3) and Rock Center With Brian Williams (0.9/2), which continued its big ratings swings, down 18% from last week to tie its series low. NBC (1.0/3) finished a distant fifth in 18-49 behind its English counterparts and Univision (1.5/4). The CW’s Gossip Girl (0.6/1) matched the series low from last week, and Hart Of Dixie (0.8/2) slipped a tenth.

After Christmas with new shows on FOX and NBC, we will see if CBS comedies are able to keep the numbers. It has been easy for CBS Mondays until now with Terra Nova not doing great, House down, Dancing down and NBC bombing. Maybe people was watching the comedies because there was no much more. We will see.I like HIMYM but no so much the rest of the comedies.2.5 Man is not what it was at all. I will move to The Voice after Christmas and dvr HIMYM .
A 3 for Hawaii after a 4.2 lead in is not that great. CSI Miami was getting a 3.8 demo there just 2 years ago. I think CBS could do much better there. Castle was able to double the lead in while Hawaii lost a big part of it.
>> “Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice (2.2/6, 7 million) was even with its premiere last year”
Technically, this wasn’t s replaying of the last year’s “Prep & Landing” special. It was a sequel.
Clearly, Castle is very lead-in dependent and suffers without DWTS. Hawaii Five-0 is not dependent on its lead-in and M&M is an incompatible one imo. You can’t compare ratings from 2 yrs. ago, with different lead-ins for the different shows. So many more people now DVR compared to 2 yrs ago. Hawaii Five-0 does great at in the 10PM slot compared to other show airing NOW!
NBC is funny to make fun of on Mondays…. talk about not compatible shows…
How did ESPN’s NFL game do??
I suspect that at worst, the only two shows to outdraw “Monday Night Football” were the CBS tandem of “Two Broke Girls” and “Two And A Half Men”.
H50 is for “don’t like think too much” kind of audience, “Castle” requires more brain cells
CBS promoted H50 like hell all the time last week, so people knew there was the new episode on. ABC not only forgot to air Cuffed promo after last Monday’s repeat episode, but actually DID NOT PROMOTE the show almost at all. And such a crappy lead in is not helping. Although 5 millions people returned at 10 pm to watch Castle, so it speaks volumes actually. H50 as a matter of fact lost audience even if they had higher audience.
seriously 2.5 men is possibly the worst show on television.
we are all less intelligent and more crass because of it’s mere existence.
somebody should put chuck lorre out to pasture for the betterment of the greater society. it’s strict utilitarianism, and it’s unfortunate for chuck, but seriously this has to stop at some point.
This is such excting news for Two and a Half Mens ratings. I’m so happy about it.
What the hell, Charlie Brown aired already?? Sheesh.
“HowI Met Your Mother” was a sad but very well done episode.
Like I said, Rock center is hitting rock bottom and it will continue to stay there for the foreseebale future. NBC is just awful and Charlie Brown will be reairing a few more times in the next 2 weeks. You Deserve It deserves for it to be pulled and cancelled.
As a CSI Miami fan I was upset when CBS decided to send the show to Sundays to make a spot for Hawaii 50. Truth that CSI Miami was not getting the high 4 demo numbers it used to get, but high 3 demos and over 14 million viewers in the 8th season were pretty good. We all know what happens with shows moved to Sundays, they die.
And all for nothing. The expensive Hawaii 50 is getting a 3 demo when it’s lucky, and under 11 million viewers. This night has been the first time that the show got more viewers than Castle and only because Castle had a terrible lead in.
I am sorry, but it severs CBS right. They had a great show, doing great and with a loyal audience and they got greedy. High 3 demos were not enough? Bet they r soo happy now.
If they cared more for viewers and less for numbers, this would had not happened. They have killed the 10 pm slot with the expensive Hawaii 50. Money doesn’t mean quality in a show.
Yes they’ve killed the time slot haven’t they? Now they’ve ”only” got THE top performing ten pm show of ANY network on that time slot.
Which CSI Miami never was! You can’t compare shows to two years ago. All the ten pm shows are trending way lower than they were two years ago.
You are seriously dumb if you can’t grasp that simple fact. Anyway HFO makes a ton more money for CBS than Miami and that is all they care about. You Miami fans are so so so boring. Get over it already.
