Viewers still love ‘em worms and cockroaches. After a five-year break, NBC’s Fear Factor returned to the schedule last night with ratings the likes of which NBC has not seen in a long while. The gross-out reality series premiered with back-to-back episodes averaging a 3.1 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 (8.7 million total viewers) at 8 PM and a 3.5/8 (8.5 million) at 9 PM. Both hours posted season highs in their time slots, outperforming NBC’s 18-49 season averages by 88% and 106%, respectively. Fear Factor, back with its original producing team and host Joe Rogan, helped struggling newsmagazine Rock Center With Brian Williams (1.1/3, 4 million), which was up 22% from last week to match its series high in 18-49. NBC (2.6/7, 7 million for the night), always dead last on Mondays this fall, finished a competitive second behind CBS (3.6/9, 12 million).
CBS’ entire lineup was down from last week. The network tested rookie 2 Broke Girls as an 8 PM anchor. It posted a 4.1/11, down 11% from its rating at 8:30 PM last week and down 9% from the performance of How I Met Your Mother in the 8 PM half-hour last week but a very solid showing nevertheless. After a 2 Broke Girls rerun (3.3/8), Two And A Half Men (4.6/11) was down 10% from last week to a season low. Mike & Molly (3.9/9) and Hawaii Five-0 (2.8/7) were down 7%.
Fox aired a new Terra Nova (2.1/6, down a tenth from its last original two weeks ago) and a rerun of House (1.4/3). ABC turned in an NBC-like Monday performance before Fear Factor, with Charlie Brown: I Want A Dog For Christmas (1.4/4, down 13% from last year), game show You Deserve It (0.9/2, down 10% from last week for a new series low) and a Castle repeat (1.0/2). The CW aired reruns.

I didn’t know Fear Factor was coming back. Does it have a new host, or are we stuck with the same old high pitched whiney dude?
Joe Rogan is awesome
they should pair FEAR FACTOR with GRIMM. that would be a sure ratings winner
Rogan was, and still IS great-WTF are you talking about? Whiny host? You got the wrong show, dude!
Rogan was, and still IS the man! WTF are you talking about? Whiny dude? You must have the wrong show, “dude”?
saw 2.5 men last night. quite possible one of the worst episodes of television i’ve ever seen…
You must not watch Whitney.
Spectacularly terrible. Though the episodes of 2 Broke Girls before it give it a strong run for that title.
Every episode of Two and a Half Men is one of the worst episodes of television.
I have no interest in ff but I am a Rogan fan so I am very happy to see this great ratings for them. The second hour doubled average NBC ratings for almost all their shows
Bring back “Deal Or No Deal”!
It might bring some prime-time viewers to NBC on Saturday nights!
I think that NBC benefitted from the really weak Monday Night Football game that ESPN scheduled, as male viewers looked elsewhere for entertainment.
It should do well as long as they don’t overplay it as was done with ‘Deal or no Deal’ and ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire.’
And I’d agree with whoever suggested ‘Grimm’ as a Monday night addition with ‘Fear Factor’ as a lead-in. Would work much better there, and the Brian Williams show is obviously a Friday night show anyway.
2.5 mAn is getting worse each week, but I think CBS should be more concern about Hawaii 50, the drop after Mike&Molly is huge. A 2.8 demo considering it was against repeats, it’s pretty bad.
nice the ratings prove that even old shows like fear factor can come back for another go round and be a hit. as for 2 and half men cbs should show the thing some mercy and pull the plug or just give john cryer a spin off where alan moves on with life just himself and his kid and the maid.
So this proves my point…if a show that was off the air for 5 years can do well again, why can’t Las Vegas just come back, even if it’s for a season, and give the fans what they deserve and that’s a proper conclusion to the show and air it on mondays, the way it was intended to be. That show has only been off for 3 years now and if promoted properly and given a shot again, it will do well.
