UPDATE: A rep for Jones called the Daily Mirror story “a fabrication.” “There have been absolutely no conv
ersations about Steve Jones Leaving The X Factor,” the rep said. “Steve is very happy with the outcome of this season and he looks forward to being back and discovering more talent in the new year.” Just to be clear, the Mirror story didn’t claim that Jones had spoken with Fox or the show’s producers about Season 2 but that he will not be asked back when time comes.
PREVIOUS: This will not come as a shock to anyone, but the Daily Mirror is reporting that the contract of The X Factor host Steve Jones will not be renewed for next season. Veteran British presenter Jones was a complete unknown to American TV audience until Simon Cowell flew him over for a test at the last minute after Nicole Scherzinger, in her original role as host, nixed her chosen co-host, Corbin Bleu. Jones got the job after showing chemistry with Scherzinger. Of course, that soon proved irrelevant as Scherzinger was moved to the judges table following the dismissal of Cheryl Cole, and Jones became the show’s sole host. But the Welshman never seemed comfortable and has drawn mostly negative reviews for his performance. If Jones indeed goes, Scherzinger could get her old job as host of X Factor as she today declined to answer whether she would continue as judge on the show if asked back.

I actually like Jones. He is there to move the show along and you can’t always baby people. Everytime he tried politely to ask the judges to wrap it up they just ignored him. I like the way he hosted the show but then again many people seem to have a issue so it all depends on what floats your boat
It’s Dunkleman’s time to shine!
I am not a viewer of The X Factor. One night I walked into a room with people watching it, and it was so painful to watch this guy host the show I had to leave the room. There are just no words to describe how BAD this guy is as host.
The problem lies with Simon, who think the Brits are better speakers, better hosts and judges than the Americans. Simon is determined to beat AI in anyway possible, and that means bringing all his Brit buddies to America to ram down our throats. Even Piers Morgan is having a hard time on CNN. Is anybody watching?
I feel like there’s been more people involved in the drama behind the show than the amount of people who actually tune in.
Noooooo!!! I love to stare at his gorgeous face. It’s one of that shows few bright spots.
I adore him.
Hiring Simon and Paula for your talent show was a no brainer but Everyone else was miscast.
Why all the Brits?
Isn’t Simon enough?
LL Cool J. & Fergie would be about right.
Finding someone as good as Ryan Seacrest will not be easy but make sure they speak with an American Accent.
How about Tosh for some edge!
I liked him, especially when he refused to question Rachel Crow as she sobbed on the floor. Also, who cares what I said, I just liked staring at him.
I like British people, but yeah Simon is enough for this show. This first season was a fiasco. They need some A list face to save it next time.
Andrew Gunsberg is the best choice to take over. Self-affacing, funny, good looking and Australian.
This show was an out-and-out disaster. From its first episode on, every aspect of the program felt mangled and phony. The ratings were decent enough and Fox had too much of an incentive not to bring it back, but quite obviously they are going to do a MAJOR overhaul…as they should.
I lasted about three weeks; the longest anyone I know lasted was my father who watched a few eliminations before giving up.
I think Steve did a fabulous job. Did you ever see Ryan Seacrest in his first season of Idol? OMG! Steve is not going to turn into Ryan. Steve is Steve. He did nothing wrong. He kept the show on time, which is something even Ryan cannot do. He said he would have two or three people screaming at him in his earpiece to “shut Paula up”…or whoever. The judges would just ignore him. Do you want the show to be cut off and not see the end? Leave Steve alone and blame the judges. As for Nicole, she is not a judge, and I can’t imagine her as a host. She has proven herself to be too gabby. If they do push Steve out, bring in someone funny like Jeff Foxworthy. Why does it have to be a tall, dark, handsome type? Bring in a comedian who can make shots back at the judges and knows how to be compassionate to the contestants and make the show fun.
Thats a setback…who is gonna watch it now…he was cute and admirable…
I liked Jones. He did his job, which was never easy as all of the judges egos were to big to ever let the show move on when it needed to.
The only person who really needs to go is Nicole.
Nicole is wretched as a judge and never should have been allowed on the show at all – as judge, host or performer.
Corbin would have been – and still would be – a great choice for host. He’s personality plus.
I actually rather like Steve in all his lovely Welsh awkwardness, but he’s probably not right for hosting U.S. TV.
It’s my personal opion that both Simon Cowell and L.A, Reid should be the first passengers on Steve Branson’s first spaceship into space, and do their comedy skits on Mars….They are a insults to what the music business once was, and should return to However I have the highest respect for Sony’s Chairman of The Board, Doug Morris, a true music professional.
can we get Miss Cole back now?!?!
The host is the least of this show’s problems.
Why is Nicole still employed there? She was a terrible judge: biased against females, and unbearably fake and smug. The night when she dabbed the tissue to her eyes as she attempted to squirt out crocodile tears after wimping out from making a judging choice to “let America decide” was a low that cannot be forgiven. Off with her head!
The first episode Jones seemed off. The most recent episode tells the same story. However the more telling factor here is that Simon Cowell is off his game.
First he takes a chance signing Cheryl Cole, a UK superstar who’s won the UK version twice, and then he boots her only to have the audience respond favorable to her when then show airs while her lackluster replacement has floundered each week. Add to that a hosting problem and this show is not working.
Someone needs to sit down and make some hard decisions here. Get rid of Steve, hired Corbin, get rid of Nicole, hire back Cheryl and finally get rid of Paula. She brings nothing new to the show and only continues the “this is an American Idol rip-off” deterence viewers have. Hire Mariah.
The format and elimination are superior to Idol so visually represent that with the panel. Mariah>LA>Cheryl>Simon. Done.
Excellent mini article, you nailed it. You should blog. That would be a great panel, but I doubt Mariah would commit to be away from dembabies though.
That hot host guy is one of the main reasons I stop surfing and put the remote down. My biggest problem is the sound mix is HORIBLE. I can’t hear him, I can’t hear the singers, and apparantely none of them can hear each other. All I hear is the audience. Get the mics out of the audience. Then again, when he’s on, I can turn the sound down anyway.
i liked steve as host . but if the producers have decided they do not want him back that is their say even though i think they are making a little mistake. for he deserved another season to show what he can do.
Agree 100%!!! Sound is awful.
So both he and Nicole are gone – let me guess – they are leaving in “NO PARTICULAR ORDER.”
