NEW YORK (December 21, 2011) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American and UK rights to Woody Allen’s next film, NERO FIDDLED. The film stars Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page.
Produced by Letty Aronson, Steve Tenenbaum, Giampaulo Letta and Faruk Alatan, NERO FIDDLED, is a Medusa film and Gravier production. The film was Allen’s first film shot in Rome.
NERO FIDDLED marks Allen’s fifth film with Sony Pictures Classics. Allen’s most recent film with SPC, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, has made almost $60 million at the box office and is Allen’s highest grossing film in North America. The film also recently garnered four Golden Globe nominations. SPC’s previous collaborations with Allen include YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER starring Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Frieda Pinto; the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival’s opening night film WHATEVER WORKS starring Larry David, Patricia Clarkson and Evan Rachel Wood; and SWEET AND LOWDOWN, which garnered Oscar nominations for Sean Penn and Samantha Morton.
“More laughs in this one than you can imagine. We know it’s a bit premature, but thank you Woody and company, for granting us the perfect summer comedy of 2012. Keep ‘em coming,” says Sony Pictures Classics.
Allen adds, “I’ve had a number of very good experiences working with Sony Classics, culminating most recently with MIDNIGHT IN PARIS. They seem to be very sensitive to the kind of films I make, and I’m looking forward to working with them now again.”

would be great for him to follow up “paris” with a really good one… the last few times he had big hits… match point and vicki christina barcelona (both close to 100 million worldwide gross) he followed them up with decent but typical mundane movies… this one feels like a special one. i read that part of the movie is in italian, the cast is awesome, and sounds different involving sort of short stories set in rome as opposed to one long story
This is very true. Midnight gives me hope that he has a couple more gems left in him, though.
Can’t wait to watch this with my wife, sipping wine in the couches-only theater at The Landmark…
Huh, one of the segments was supposed to star Allen & Judy Davis, yet there’s no mention of them being part of the cast in this press release. Did Allen cut himself out of his own movie?
Every time it comes up I can’t stop announcing how much I hated MIP. I thought it was bland and awful. Honestly could not wait until the movie ended. It actually made me dislike Rachel McAdams as an actress. Used to adore her, but why she took that lousy film role and how effectively she annoyed was too much. UGH.
everyone is entitled to an opinion… aside from that… there’s something wrong with you if you think her being a part of a hit, critically acclaimed and probably oscar nominated movie is somehow a mistake
I liked the first half of the movie, but I agree with you after that. The ending was so predictable with the girl showing up out of nowhere. The know-it-all character simply vanished midway through. The whole sequence involving the jewelry was more Blake Edwards than Woody Allen. Not a bad movie, but some are acting like this is the second coming of Annie Hall. LOL.
Anyone knows the release date to this movie?
I know Allen has described “Nero Fiddled” as more of an out and out comedy than “Midnight In Paris” It looks interesting judging by the extensive still photo and video coverage of the filming this past summer in Rome.I can’t believe how many of my friends and relatives, including those who’d long ago written off Allen, enjoyed “MIP.” I’ve been enjoying the DVD of Paris which came out Dec. 20. It even includes a rare extra special feature, the Cannes Film Festival press conference. Sadly,it is only a brief five-minutes or so sampling and leaves you wanting more.
