I guess “The Way” doesn’t qualify as a “Specialty” Film.
So, is this another “regular” feature like those Autopsy Reports we’ve been getting so regularly?
Never mind, it is an obvious error upon closer inspection…
True story: I was all set to go out and see “Shame” in NYC this weekend, and after quickly crosschecking the 3 theaters with the bedbugregistry.com, I read that all 3 have been written up for having current infestations. When are the theater owners going to get a handle on this problem?
I would gladly pay top dollar for my Fassbender-fix, but not if it means getting itchy bites or bringing tiny critters into my home to take over. Gross.
Despite the hype in the regular BO report these flicks are all dead in the water. 4,000 a screen for the much Hyped My Week With Marilyn is terrible for a second week, The Atist with 34,000 on six expensive screens in LA and NY where most of the ticket money is on expense accounts from the industry is nothing to get excited about at all, it is not much better than A Dangerous Method which most people have already written off in terms of Oscar buzz.
The only “specialty” film that has anything like momentum is The Descendants and it isn’t even mentioned here. Look for a Best Picture slate that is made up of studio fare like The Help, The Descendants, Maybe The Iron Lady (Has anyone actually seen this film outside of the film boards in NY?), War Horse and maybe The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the indie crowd will all go nuts. Oh, and the Oscar show will get great ratings for a change.
I just saw The Artist at the Angelika in NYC and the crowd seemed pretty normal to me. I’m a pretty chatty guy and everyone I talked to in line and in the theater was there because, like me, they heard it was good. I don’t know how anyone could call the Angelika an expensive screen or claim the crowd is mostly industry expense accounts. It’s a pretty typical indie theater.
Anyway, The Artist is phenomenal and I *really* enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see Tinker, Tailor and The Descendants next weekend!
