BURBANK, CA, December 23, 2011 – The new trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ The Dark Knight Rises smashed the record for most combined downloads through the iTunes Movie Trailers site (www.itunes.com/ trailers) and the iTunes Trailers iOS app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The trailer went online at 10:00 Monday morning, December 19, and was viewed more than 12.5 million times in its first 24 hours, breaking the previous record [set by the trailer for Marvel's The Avengers] by well over two million. The trailer can be viewed in HD at http:// trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/thedarkknightrises/.

Wasn’t Marvel’s Avengers staking the same claim a couple of months back? So I can only assume The Dark Knight Rises took over that spot.
This is just a big joke. I’m actually laughing this is so hilariously stupid. Of course it’s all the studios just trying to throw their numbers in the face of the other studios, so why does anyone even care? These numbers are also totally wrong. I bet if they were to tally up the true counts of trailer views around the internet, this would be closer to 30 million. So why don’t they do that? In the meantime, I’ll continue to laugh at how pointless this “marketing” attempt is.
Are you actually sitting by yourself at your computer, laughing hysterically at this story? If so, you need to get out more.
This will hands down be the biggest movie of 2012. I can easily see it making more than The Dark Knight.
Indeed. Until December 2012. I would imagine TDKR will hold the domestic record next year. The Hobbit will easily outpace it internationally. Looking at TDK’s numbers in 2008, the movie made $500 million in the states, but only took in $450 million globally. As compared to movies like Lord of the Rings or Avatar which take in most of it’s revenue from international markets.
…and 10m people went “Meh” after viewing it.
Nope, but nice try.
I would’ve thought The Hobbit beat that record considering the number of views on Youtube. Wider appeal it would seem to me than a comic book movie.
Nah.
I’m certain that is true, Warner Bros just doesn’t care to count anything besides Apple’s numbers. If they were to tally the totals from all over the web, I bet The Hobbit would be greater.
Great trailer. A lot of goodwill from the last movie. Heavily anticipated. SOLID ACTORS. IMAX format. This will bank over 600 million domestic…easy. International is anyones guess.
600? Wow. If it was in 3D, I would say sure. And if one of the cast members were to die before release (with all due respect to Heath Ledger).
So true. $600 is no “easy” get, which is why only two movies have pulled that number domestic. You need a lot of repeat business, and it’s just very hard to generate that with what is still, in the end, a comic book movie and a part three on top of that. If it even approaches TDK numbers, that is an outstanding victory.
