EXCLUSIVE: Cara Lewis, a dominant agent in the hip-hop sphere, will leave WME at the end of the month when her contract expires. Lewis spent 23 years at WMA and WME, and her client list includes Kanye West, Eminem, B.o.B, Big Boi, Common, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Ne-Yo, Pitbull, Soulja Boy, the Roots and Tinie Tempah. Music touring has become an increasingly important segment for agencies, so this one will be interesting to follow. A source close to Lewis confirmed she’ll leave, saying they just couldn’t come to terms on a new deal.

Good for her. Greener pastures.
As far as I’m concerned, I wish Kanye would disappear altogether.
The Taylor Swift debacle along with his George Bush hates black people proves he is a petulant, immature little boy with a huge sense of self-entitlement.
He might be rich, but money will never buy him class.
wow, when will people get over the Bush statement? it’s not as if a few days later, George’s mom mentioned how the Astrodome in Houston would be an upgrade for some folks, and i know in that family the apple doesn’t fall far…and, he was merely expressing frustration in the moment (yes, on live tv no less)
A dark cloud has been lifted from over WME. I am sure their is dancing in the streets
If WME is dancing in the streets because they are losing an agent that makes them boatloads of money, then I think they need to rethink their corporate strategy.
Agreed.
“a dominant agent in the hip-hop sphere”… more like THE dominant agent.
Cara the Cash Cow is available?
Not for long.
She was meeting with rob light last week. Go CAA
sure she was
Holy shit that is one fucking mega client list.
Cara is a very unpleasant person.
The music department is why Endeavor took over WMA. This is why it is hard to value companies with assets that go home to sleep in their beds at night.
Translation: “Thanks for making us that huge pile of cash. We’ve decided not to go urban with this one.”
While Cara is not easy (and if you added up how many assistants she has had in the past 10 years, it would equal the population of Rhode Island) she is one of the greatest assets they had. While she may not have been a ‘team player’, she was one of the best agents there. and if you put any of the agents there in her shoes for a day (or even an hour) they would probably shit their pants in terms of the crap that she had to put up with on the other end of the phone.
Some good journalist should really do a piece on how much she has influenced modern music.
paradigm, get out your checkbook….
Wouldn’t that be interesting!
Just what I was thinking!
If she isn’t pleasant, had the population of Rhode Island for assistants, not a team player, then she will fit right in with CAA.
CAA will cut their throats for her!
She’s not a good person. She treats assistants horribly, and treats her colleagues even worse. I worked at Wma and watched her run roughshod over everyone and she was never punished. This may be a little late, but she’s had this coming for awhile.
I heard she’s talking to Jeff Berg about going to ICM.
I heard she’s talking to Chris Silbermann about going to ICM.
Good riddance. I worked on her desk and still describe the horrors to my friends. She proved that being a total bitch and yelling at everyone (colleagues, venues, assistants) was tolerated as long as the money came in. Her clients don’t care about her and as long as there’s a monkey/assistant/robot to dial them back they’ll stay. There’s no loyalty in urban music so Im sure Ari and the boys will be fine. -CPLAsst #987890
She will go work for Lyor Cohen at WMG…… Since labels get a piece of your touring now why not have a in house agent…. Lyor only gives 360 Deals and % of your tour money goes to the record company, commercials, merchandise.. All that they can can do to make money off you since the business is not doing well….
Ari will cut off his nose to spite his face. This is about letting go of old William Morris more than anything. It has nothing to do with Cara Lewis as a person, the new regime wants young agents they can pay on the cheap. They don’t care who they let go or how lucrative the client list is if it’s Old WMA.
Cara may be unpleasant to deal with in the office (in this business it’s understandable) but she is one person who always bothered to smile and say hello if we passed each other in the street. This is very rare as most agents won’t bother to acknowledge you if they see you outside the office unless you are “somebody.” I wish her all the best.
