Here is a trailer for TNT’s upcoming reboot of Dallas, complete with the iconic theme music, which somewhat awkwardly segues into a behind-the-scenes featurette. Veterans Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy are front and center, joined by the new generation of Dallas – Jesse Metcalfe, Josh Henderson and Jordana Brewster. The series, written by Cynthia Cidre, premieres next summer.

My goodness does this look lame. And I loved the original.
You must be kidding.
Next we’re going to hear that “I love Lucy” will reboot. With the original actors – their skeletons handled as marionettes.
that’s freakin hilarious, laughing out loud
Why in the world would you go behind the scenes (Dawson’ Creek style) in the middle of a dramatic promo that you want the audience to take seriously? This piece fails as soon as you expose the production. Wow. Seriously? You’re trying to build momentum off the mystique of a show that “changed television forever” then you cut to EPK material? Who’s in charge of on-air promotion over there? Yikes.
Reboot, Remake, Sequel…
Hedging bets, fear of failure, lack of original material… I don’t know. I’m beginning to think it’s pure laziness.
LOL. Looks like every bit the parody it sounded like it would be when announced. Only thing missing is a familiar face from SNL or Colbert show. And you just gotta love a trailer that interrupts the fiction to include scripted cliche testimonials from its own stars about what a great show it is that they are starring in! *That* shows faith in the material. Writer-producer Cynthia Cidre gets this show on the air based on…what? The success of “Cane”?
I’ll admit, I chuckled at the V.O. and the opening segment. And as nice as it is to see Pat Duffy put back on his one-expression Bobby Ewing face, Lordy-Jesus, what the hell is this hot mess of a fear-of-failure project doing on television? Didn’t they recycle this silliness into TV movies years ago with the sons going at it ala Bobby and J.R.? (For those old enough to remember. Maybe that’s what they’re counting on, an audience who won’t.)
In recent years TV has been more innovative than the feature business. This drags us back to the cave. As soon as some actress sitting around a table, shilling her project so she can collect future paychecks, says, “All the characters are so true to who they are,” all I could think is, “does she mean one-dimensional?”
Bet I’m right.
I bet it will very well (for TNT.)
They added “behind the scenes” to a promo/introduction… Why?
I have a bad feeling about this show.
Wow, was this trailer filled with cliches. “Push the envelope”, and “take it to the next level”? Please! This is a rehash of a night-time soap that will be on basic cable. How is that pushing anything except credulity.
Anyone who lives in Dallas knows the South Fork (north of the city by the way), is now surrounded by subdivisions. And the main house looks positively tiny compared to some of the architectural monstrosities nearby. At least the “classic” series had the sense to film most of the show in the city it was named after. Only small portions of this iteration are filmed locally, despite many incentives offered by the local and state film commissions.
No, TNT, I’m afraid you simply made a pale imitation of Friday Night Lights, with oil for football, and not nearly as good.
Dallas has nothing to do with FNL, nor does it want to.
On the promo they said the original pushed the envelope. This is a sequel to a night-time soap, but it respects the original series and has a very good pilot script. That’s much more than we can say about 90% of Classic tv series reboots.
I’m not 100% sure, but I thought the new Dallas series was going to be fully shot in Dallas. The “Classic” series was not filmed in Dallas. At first they visited Texas and filmed a few exteriors a few times a year. Later on, they stopped going to Texas and the show was fully shot in L.A.
inclusion of CW actors = no thank you
What CW actors?
I agree – lame adding the btscenes in the middle of the drama, but I’m still going to watch it! Looks like a guilty pleasure.
I cannot wait for the continuation of DALLAS to kick off on TNT. Everything I have seen and read tell me that TNT has really taken the time and care to make sure all the ingredients are in place to make this show a solid show on TNT.
Personally I think Revenge has people in a great mood for an outstanding escape back to DALLAS.
So tired of cop shows and lawyer shows that this will be a great break from those.
