Starz just released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of Spartacus, titled Spartacus: Vengeance. Like previous trailers, the new one highlights the gore and sexuality that have become the series’ trademark. Is it just me or has new Spartacus star Liam McIntyre been transformed to look just like the late Andy Whitfield? Spartacus: Vengeance premieres January 27.

Actually no – he looks much skinnier than Whitfield.
Is Liam McIntyre supposed to be playing a new character or was it a recast due to Andy Whitfield’s unfortunate cancer diagnosis? Perhaps that is why he is meant to look the same…
Season 2 was delayed after the diagnosis. After Andy passed away, the role was recast. The second season supposedly still credits him though.
looks good. But he looks tiny
The new actor is definitely filling the same role. It’s not a new character, it is Spartacus. And he looks reasonably close to Andy Whitfield, who was incredible in that role.
The role was recasted before Andy Whitfield passed. So sad to lose him because he really came into his own and made Spartacus larger than life. Huge loss for the show and fans (and of course, his family).
Liam looks younger and a little less battle-weary than the original; like he is just too “adorable”, as oppose to all sexy and badass. That is a little disheartening. But even though he’s no Andy Whitfield, who absolutely owned, I’m sure Liam will do just fine.
