A little over a week after USA Network announced a January 26 premiere date for new series Common Law, the network has revised its plans, opting to push the series’ debut to summer. USA insiders cited press and research feedback that described Common Law, which stars Michael Ealy and Warren Kole as a pair of detectives forced to attend couples counseling, as a true summer action-comedy. That led to USA’s decision to launch the show where it has had most success introducing new series — in the summer. Of all USA original series, only White Collar (October) and Fairly Legal (January) premiered outside of USA’s sweet for launching new shows, summer. USA won’t replace Common Law with another original in the Thursday 10 PM slot this midseason. Royal Pains and White Collar will air their winter seasons as scheduled. USA will still do a Common Law presentation at the upcoming winter TCA Press Tour as the series is expected to launch in early summer.

You must have done great at reading comprehension class.
Nah it’ll probably get the 3 million plus viewers/1.0+ in the demo that all of the bland, similar USA shows get. What a vanilla network.
True, as any network cannot wait to rush a new hit show on the air. The postponement speaks for itself, as well as USA saying they’re trying to change their fare away from this innocuous “Blue Skies” treacle.
Sounds bland and unoffensive. Should be a summer hit for USA.
The lack of original hour long drama series in the summer kills me, love that USA moved Common Law to the summer.
What’s original about this? It’s a cop procedural show. They go to couples therapy to help them be better cops. The biggest problem with it is, you know this is going to be neutered on USA because they basically want to be CBS on cable. No nudity, no real violence, passable action. USA. Hey at least there are blue skies. Not a cloud in sight.
I’m wondering how much this was driven by NBC’s desire to protect The Firm from a potentially substantial male/action drama on cable that might draw away from it on a sister network.
I can’t imagine that USA would even bother to consider competition from a Grisham show… good numbers for cable doesn’t always translate to the network world. I think they want to stick it in between established shows and hope it comes and slowly dies away among them. People will tire from the therapy conceit very quickly.
Ever since USA got rid of The 4400 and The Dead Zone, I lost interest in their programming. Bland, bland, bland.
I agree!!! I miss the 4400 and The Dead Zone. I completely lost all interest in the programming on the USA Network when they abruptly ended both series. Now it is all cookie cutter blah blah blah!!
I disagree! I think that it is very refreshing to have more shows like this one. Everything on tv is either reality tv or over the top sexually explicit or way to graphic. A show can still be interesting without always trying to have some kind of shock value. Sometimes it is a turn off when the Networks try to hard.
Usa actually does a good job of putting on entertaining shows.
This particular show has been getting a fairly good amount of promotion. I find this a little surprising. It does seem like they decided it was not strong enough to launch in January.
It was very disappointing to find out that the show would not be airing this winter. The previews really attracted my attention I was so ready to see it next week but now I have to wait another 4 months to see it… I really hope I don’t lose intrest…..
I feel the same way. I was really looking forward to viewing this show. Oh well, i guess it won’t me to wait.
I am Happy and sad. I’m just glad it’s not cancelled all together. But I’m sad we have to wait until sunmer. I can’t wait to see Micheal Ealy back on TV. Haven’t seen him on TV since Sleeper Cell short run. Yeah USA!
I find it sad that Common Law will NOT be coming back. I found it refreshingly different “Cop” show. Granted there could have been a bit better scripting, like the Captain himself changed but the chemistry between the Primaries was very good. Too bad to see this one bite the dust. Is there anything we are going to have to watch other than “Pawn” shows and “Restoration” shows. Don’t get me wrong I DO enjoy History and Natgeo also but they too are entering the “Pawn” realm with things like the “storage” shows and the like. It really is horrible that with over 150-200 channels to chose from there is becoming less and less to watch! It is extremely hard to find ANYTHING unless you are into PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING which in itself is just BAD TV!
