EXCLUSIVE: Filly Brown makes its world premiere Friday at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival as one of the films buyers are watching for. Co-directed by Youssef Delara and Michael Olmos, the film is about a young hip-hop artist from Los Angeles whose budding career comes to a crossroads when she’s offered a crack at stardom by a shady producer. With a mother in jail, she knows the opportunity could get her family out of a jam, but taking the deal means leaving behind the true friends who helped her get this far. Gina Rodriguez plays Filly Brown, and Edward James Olmos, Lou Diamond Phillips and Jenni Rivera also star. Here is a short scene from the film.

So, is this a film for teens? They’re not going to much of an adult crossover. Sounds blah
Wow… I hope it gets better. Maybe you buy this to exploit the 8 Mile/Hustle and Flow fad that was 10 years ago, but not now.
Woah, looks interesting.
wooow this is Interesting soo far i want to watch this come out in the theater
im excited.
I’ve seen the actor who plays the rapper there, Joseph Soria in a few different things and he’s always been excellent. Sounds like a film about a struggle to succeed so I know it’s going to be relateable. I’ve seen a couple negative comments on here but i’m looking forward to seeing it.
If they push this film on the performances then I’m interested. If they try and push the whole ‘follow your hip-hop dreams’ angle then I’m not interested.
Glorified posers. Ugh. Looks awful.
This looks like it’s going to be a great movie. Love how they have incorporated new and well known actors in one film…..
I careless for the story, due to this is perpetuating the latino youth stereo-type. Enough, our community is better than that and it should reflect it on the films. We are the maids, the ilegals but more than that we are the power, the business owner, polititians, we are more much than what the rest of the people can imagen. The actors are doing excellent performance. The rest sucks!
Can’t believe this is what Sundance is trying to push at their festival. Yo yo yo.
Didn’t they already showcase Hustle and Flow?
when is this movie coming out? i want to see it
