EXCLUSIVE: Gina Rodriguez, who is garnering a lot of buzz for her starring role in the Sundance entry Filly Brown, has signed a talent holding deal with ABC and ABC Studios to star in a pilot targeted for next season. She is yet to be attached to a project as ABC has just started picking up its pilots. One possibility is Marc Cherry’s Devious Maids, which revolves around four Latina women who are maids in Beverly Hills. Rodriguez first got the attention of ABC executives last year when she guest starred on the network’s comedy Happy Endings. Her series’ credits also include an arc on Army Wives. The deal comes on the eve of the Friday world premiere of Rodriguez’s movie Filly Brown at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Already identified as a film buyers are watching for, Filly Brown, co-directed by Youssef Delara and Michael Olmos, centers on a young hip-hop artist from Los Angeles (Rodriguez) whose budding career comes to a crossroads when she’s offered a crack at stardom by a shady producer. Here is a scene from the movie posted earlier today by my colleague Mike Fleming. Rodriguez is with Paradigm and Intellectual Artists.

Alright Gina!!! She couldn’t be sweeter or more deserving.
Stars in the Sundance film Filly Brown which is incredible. She will win Sundance as best actress. This movie is the next Hustle & Flow and she’s the next Terrence Howard, as female.
Well Latinos you’ve come a long way. Latinos have a Supreme Court Justice several Mayors and high official all off the great USA the most highly sought after athletes Mark Sanchez, Victor Cruz NFL, Albert Puhols, A-Rod MLB stars. Then Hollywood will put you Latinos on TV as maids “Devious Maids”. Thank you
Martin Luther King for continuing to inspire us we must continue the fight for equality for all especially in Hollywood.
oh calm down. if you do your homework you’ll find that Marc’s format is based on a very successful MEXICAN format from Televisa, that just aired last year. Maid’s exist in Mexico, as they do here, and just about anywhere on the planet. I highly doubt that Marc and ABC will portray them in an ill manor.
My homework Sir, is that Latinos are the number 1 minority now in the US and we need to not wuss out like you and kiss the butt of Hollywood but kick their butt to portray us in all aspects. The CBS show the “Good Wife” do you believe for a second the lead was going to be a minority female? Marc yes he really portrays Latinas right in Desperate Housewives Eve Longoria plays the Latina cheating wife who bangs her gardner NICE. OYE!!!!! (Open Your Eyes).

Dont you get it? Those commenting on this post are Hispanic Americans. Most of us dont even watch Televisa! There is a difference between Latinos in Latin America and Latinos born and raised in the States. We get tired of the stereotypes and a show like this just reinforces them!
First saw her in Go For It! where she jumped off the screen. Super talented. A show about 4 devious maids in Beverly Hills, huh? Gee ABC, ever leave the bubble?
Paradigm is going to have to put armed guards on that girl.
Devious Maids?!?!?! No stereo types there! Are you kidding me? Hollywood can’t get past portraying Latinos in the same roles as they did 50 years ago! It makes me sick! Gina, you’re better than that!
Awesome. Plus, with EJO and LDP it’s a “Stand And Deliver” reunion! Can’t wait for this movie!
I was incharge of marketing when Gina was in a play here in St. Pete. She always stuck out in my mind for her willingness to do the extra work necessary to make the production a success as well as a great performance. Congratulations Gina, you earned this.
She’s doing a stint on ‘Bold & Beautiful’.
