EXCLUSIVE: Disney has set Brian Beletic, a hotshot commercials director, to make his feature helming debut on the untitled film that’s inspired by the theme park Matterhorn ride. The studio is calling the film its “Untitled Explorers Project.” The logline: a small group of young, super adventure/explorers, each with a specific skill set, are brought to the remote backcountry of the Pennine Alps under various guises for a trek across one of the planet’s remaining untouched realms. They do this with extreme skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering. Beletic is a co-founder of Smuggler and a top commercials director whose blurbs include Nike’s “Human Chain” spots and who has made videos with the likes of The Black Eyed Peas. Disney felt he could be its latest find after the studio gave starts to Tron: Legacy‘s Joseph Kosinski and The Muppets‘ James Bobin. Jason Dean Hall wrote the script and Justin Springer is producing. The studio has hired Brain Farm Cinema as production consultants. They created the extreme snowboarding film Art Of Flight.

Just what we all needed: another feature-length commercial for a Disneyland attraction.
Will Johnny Depp be portraying Tinkerbell, as she glides across the sky to the tip of the mountain?
Billy Walsh wasn’t available?
He never really recovered from that MEDELLIN debacle.
So did Vinnie Chase finally decide to do it?
Next, he’ll direct the thriller based on the teacups ride…
hasn’t this been done already? http://www.collegehumor.com/video/1156371/scott-gairdner-disneyland-movies
Anything less than a $200MM budget for this would be doing the project an injustice. How will they effectively incorporate the sky cars that go through the top of the mountain?
Those sky cars no longer exist. Nor do you need to purchase lettered ride tickets inside the park, thereby nullifying the expression “That was an E-ticket ride!”. You are old.
AWESOME! I love Beletic’s work, Disneyland, and Art of Flight. What a combo! Can’t wait to see this movie.
Pitch: SMALL WORLD RIDE — a small group of young, obesse Disneyland patrons get stuck on the Small World ride when their collective weight grounds their boat.
Shame that nobody has a sense of themepark/cinema history. The Matterhorn ride was created because of the Disney movie “Third Man on the Mountain” starring Michael Rennie and James MacArthur (Dann-o from Hawaii Five-O).
So there is already a movie involved with this ride. Way to go beancounter of mouseland.
I think it’s an awesome idea. Like they say, “If it works, don’t fix it”. I look at it as more jobs for those who can use the work in the industry. If it helps line the pockets of those who don’t need it (and yes there are those) ….so be it.
Your just leaving another legacy

Wasn’t Colin Farrell attached to this?
“Mom, dad! I finally made it! I’ll be directing a feature! Yeah, thanks.Um, it’s based on the roller coaster at Disneyland. The Matterhorn. No, really. It’s a big break! Yeah, the ride…hello?”
omg – right outa Entourage – Hollywood is truly a place where there’s no such thing as a bad idea.
beletic has passed on everything for five years– what gives?
Beletic is AMAZING! Can’t wait for this one!
FANTASTIC! Brian is brilliant.
want proof, google him and his commercials.
Way to go Brian.
Very funny comments.
this sounds amazing – have been waiting for brian beletic to make a feature. exciting!
Problems with this project:
1.There is a Pirates ride at all Disney parks around the world; the Matterhorn is only at Disneyland, there will be a lack of familiarity.
2. The Matterhorn is an aging attraction. The few special effects are dated and the ride’s track itself is extremely bumpy and jarring.
3. The Matterhorn is a story-free attraction, other than a few encounters with 1970s abominable snowmen that growl but don’t move.
A much better idea if they insist on making movies about rides would have been a Big Thunder Mountain movie, that attraction is in all the Disney parks.
