EXCLUSIVE: CAA has just signed Michel Hazanavicius, director of the surprise Oscar frontrunner The Artist. That black and white silent film is up for six Golden Globes, including Best Director.
Hazanavicius is a French filmmaker who previously was best known for directing the spy comedy series OSS 117. He was in high demand among the agencies and will look to make his English language debut. He’s married to Berenice Bejo, who plays the ingenue in The Artist.

The Artist may have been a French production, and it may be “silent”, but it’s an English language film…at least the version originale I saw in Paris was. I would say this was his English language debut. It might be more appropriate to say he’s looking to make his first American studio film.
You mean the ten, twelve words actually spoken, Lars, or the language on the occasional scene cards? I hate myself for writing this (it’s merely my naming the source, not me boasting), but Hazanavicius told me today he’s already turned down an A-list studio film and is not in any hurry to make one. If the right one comes along, fine, otherwise he has other projects to occupy himself with.
A blessed thank you for bringing a real artist into the game. 2012 will be glorious.
And in 14 months or so they will promptly forget him
All that matters is he is married to Berenice Bejo. No matter what happens from here, he is the luckiest guy on earth.
We have a director for Thor 3 or Die Hard 6.
the OSS films were so bad, and now this.
