CBS has given a pilot order to Widow Detective, a drama written by David Hubbard and produced by CSI maven Carol Mendelsohn. The project, from CBS TV Studios and Mendelsohn’s studio-based production company, centers on a decorated police detective who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes surrogate husband, lover and father to their families. Hubbard and Mendelsohn are executive producing with Mendelsohn’s development executive Julie Weitz. Widow Detective is one of several projects Mendelsohn’s company has in contention at CBS, including a Rifleman reboot.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Mendelson has jumped the shark…Completely stupid concept. Hey…when is she going to find time to solve crimes?Let’s remember,CSI was a complete gift…she had nothing to do with it creatively…nothing more than a so-called showrunner with questionable talent.
There is a glut of police dramas amongst the networks , but this could work if it were a niche comedy/drama ! We miss quality detective comedy like Magnum or Monk (I should include Castle here because it has a comic twist , but is mainly a quality drama).
Rifleman ? Well I like westerns and nobody is doing them at all .
Being the daughter of a fallen hero, Chief J. Leonard Speer, shot and killed in the line of duty April 10, 1998, this show hits home pretty darn close. I can understand the surrogate father/helper but lover? I hope they don’t go there. Those fallen heroes and their families deserve a show that is more true-to-life. Show what they go through, the grief, the depression, the anger, the hurt and the intense pain but yet the courage to continue on. I’m still fighting for my rights and my dad’s beliefs. My dad’s murderer has more than I do and he gave my dad no chance for appeal what so ever. Please, leave the sex out of it. I know supposedly sex sales but how about showing respect. A good writer should be able to write without having sex to fall back on. Thank you.
I’m sorry, but this sounds incredibly boring to me.
Sounds like hail Mary pilot last year
They should call it I Don’t Know How She Does It and cast Sarah Jessica Parker.
