CBS has greenlighted to pilot Trooper, a character-based procedural drama from Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros. The project, written by Aron Eli Coleite (NBC’s Heroes), centers on a common-sense mother-turned-New York state trooper. Coleite, Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman are executive producing, with Bruckheimer TV’s KristieAnne Reed co-executive producing. Trooper was one of the first major sales this season, landing a put pilot commitment in August. It was a very active selling season for Bruckheimer TV with four significant commitments, including three put pilots for Trooper, a Navy SEALs drama at ABC and a 1980s wrestling show at NBC. The pickup for Trooper brings the company back in series contention after sitting last pilot season out with no production order for the first time in a decade. Coleite’s fortunes have risen fast since the August sale of Trooper to CBS. In the past few months, he saw his feature spec The End sell to Warner Bros and land on the 2011 Black List, while his pitch Hellbent went to New Regency.

CSI: Trooper?
Wow! A mind numbing procedural on CBS geared toward the lowest common denominator?!?! How delightfully bold and unexpected.
Holly cow, I’ve been waiting for a show like this forever, I think.
In the future, let’s just say that: “Jerry Bruckheimer procedural as one word.

Forget Broadcast Crime procedural unwilling to evolve with each season and develop characters give the viewer smart story telling. Thankfully the three most complex crime drama on all of tv are on cable.

At least Les knows who his audience is…
My grandparents love all of his series.
While CBS may not be the coolest, they are definitely the fattest cats in town.
Finally, a show about a tough working mother turned cop written by a man. How will she balance raising a child with the demands of working in a male-dominated police unit? Will she be emotionally inaccessible due to past hurt and put up a hard edged outer facade? Will her kid be adorable and wise beyond his years? Will her mother pitch in because her husband ran out on her when things got tough? There better be a no nonsense black friend played by one of the cast of “The Help!”
I hope the parties concerned will be directing their profit checks to the Coen Bros, since this thing is an obvious rip-off of “Fargo”.
Nice guy, terrible writer. His HEROES episodes and the comic books he’s written are unentertaining thin the extreme.
Not to worry, Jonathan Littman wouldn’t know good writing if it hit him in the face.
This could be a headline from 1999.
