Fox News made it 10 years in a row as the top-rated cable news network, a streak that began after Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes’ operation first overtook CNN in total viewership in January 2002. Said Ailes: “We are extremely proud of the phenomenal achievement created by the hard work and talent of the FOX News Channel employees and recognize how difficult it is for a cable network to sustain this level of dominance for a decade. America has clearly embraced fair and balanced news.” For January, FNC averaged 1,942,000 viewers in primetime, compared with CNN’s 841,000 and MSNBC’s 801,000, according to Nielsen. The network claimed nine of the top 10 programs in cable news in the key adults 25-54 demographic, and ranked fifth overall in the cable universe behind ESPN, USA, History and TBS.
Meanwhile, MSNBC beat CNN in total day, while CNN scored with a pair of GOP presidential debates, the latest of which, on January 26, drew 5.36 million viewers.

What nobody seems to be mentioning is that Fox news is the only option for right wing politics. Basically every other news channel is some shade of left leaning… I really dont think it has anything to do with “America embracing fair and balanced news.” There is just no real competition in conservative media.

Scarborough is more than “balanced” out on MSNBC by the nightly line-up of shows. You can’t honestly say that MSNBC isn’t leaning a bit to the left. Oh, sorry, they prefer me to say “Leaning Forward”. As others have said, when you have a monopoly like Fox News (only right-leaning network), you’re going to get all those viewers. Besides, us lefties are too busy trying to survive on what little the oligarchs throw at us to be wasting precious time watching MSNBC or CNN.

Don’t you get it? The alternative is Liberal Cable News and no one is watching. People are responding to conservative values and fair and balanced news. That’s why Fox consistently beats all of the liberal channels combined.

When ONE news outfit spoon-feeds the conservative ideological mind exactly what it wants to hear, they will come back for it time and again. On the progressive side, I for one prefer to have many options for my news gathering, so I delve into all sorts of avenues to retrieve news, then try to make an informed opinion. FOX news watchers just never turn off the channel, therefore, it is consistently #1 which does not speak to its credibility in the least.
