Fox’s summer staple So You Think You Can Dance, which was renewed for a ninth season in October, will undergo a format change, scaling down from two shows a week to one. “Fox have canceled the results show so I will have to change the format of SYTYCD,” the show’s co-creator/executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe tweeted today. “At least we have another season at the end of May.” The move comes days before SYTYCD‘s first Season 9 auditions, which will be held next week in Atlanta. “I’m certainly not mad at Fox — they have supported SYTYCD for 9 seasons,” Lythgoe wrote. “With the help of (Fox’s head of alternative) Mike Darnell I think we have some great new ideas.” SYTYCD, whose most recent eight season was down in the ratings from Season 7, will not be the first competition show to air once a week. Most recently, NBC’s The Voice started off that way before expanding to two nights following its early success.

It is not as if FOX needed the space in the summer for more original scripted programming. You would think since the results show registered higher than a pulse, FOX would keep it on in the summer.
The show is a money maker for FOX. Granted not as much as it has but still.
Hardly a fan of reality shows, but still the results show was popular still.

I’m really sorry to here that SYTYCD will cut the results show. SYTYCD is birthday present to me every year. It is a rare show that I watch with my husband,13 and 12 yr old daughters,and 8 yr old son. A true family show that we all enjoy and look forward to every season. We have only missed one season,and that was season two. I am disabled and do not get to enjoy many things with my family,as a family. I wish that FIX would reconsider and give SYTYCD and the fans back their results night!

They were going into overkill with this show like they did with AI before toning that show down a bit…one night a week is perfectly fine and maybe a results show half way down the series is fine but not every week.
The show is great. The results show is better than most. Just keep conifers back.
I am a 67 year old great grandmother. I love SYTYCD. Fox should consider a 1/2 hour results show. I much prefer the showcasing of new, fresh talent to DWTS. Love it when I recognize Alums of the show on other shows.
I am a 50 year old male, I love SYTYCD. what those kids do is short of amazing, Nigel should be very proud of himself and I agree can’t they just do a 1/2 hour result show instead of an hour, this show needs to be on so kids can see that there is something else to do, other than play video games, I am Praying that FOX TV will come to their sense about this wonderful show.
Too bad, the SYTYCD results show was at least entertaining. It was great to watch the group choreography. Cat is the best of them all. Best to dread seeing your fave go the next night and not be worrying during the performance show. More dancing…less dragging it out.
I record all the shows since my husband has other things he watches at that time. I don’t mind the results show cancellation. I would fast forward through the guest music performances if they weren’t dance. An hour to give a 10 min result is excessive.

The show sytycd is far better more entertaining that dwts. It just need more marketing propaganda, just like dwts. New innovations maye? Bring great singers or bands, so these kids can show off more.
I think this is a good decision by Fox as well.
I love SYTYCD. I agree the results show is a little long. but I really enjoy it & am looking forward to the next season. Just wish they would hurry up and put on.
I cannot believe this. I LOVE watching SYTYCD with my daughter and look forward to all the wonderful dancing. FOX you should at least give us a 1/2 hr for results.
Nigel, there are other cable channels. I would hate to loose such a wonderful showcase of talents.
