The Bible is getting its own reality show! Game Show Network has given a pilot order to The American Bible Challenge, an original one-hour game show which tests contestants on their Biblical knowledge. It is executive produced by Who Wants To Be A Millionaire executive producer Michael Davies of Embassy Row and Tom Forman of RelativityREAL. Also involved as consultant producers are Nick Stuart and Maura Dunbar of Odyssey Networks, the country’s largest multi-faith media coalition. “The American Bible Challenge celebrates America’s passion for The Bible in an entertaining, unconventional format that makes The Good Book more accessible to the whole family,” said GSN’s new EVP Programming Amy Introcaso-Davis, who joined the network in November. Given the spiritual subject of the show, it’s not surprising that the contestants won’t be vying for cash prizes for themselves. “The competition will be rooted in personal stories of faith and community, and the teams will compete to win money to help support their faith communities,” the network said.

Shouldn’t this be on Syfy?
No.
GSN is the perfect place for this how as I don’t EVER watch GSN.
The new rush with Spielberg and others to make or remake ‘bible’ films will all be box office disasters unless they have ninja warriors, special effects, sex, naked women and naked men doing all things against the bible teachings…and even then…I would not bet on any of these features working.
That being said, GSN may get a big bible demo watching this new show.
This is a huge demo. GSN is perfectly correct for taking a chance on it. Great idea.
Why? Because you think the Bible is fiction? Is that your joke? Ain’t funny, heathen.
It’s funny cause’ it’s true.
True diversity in TV means shows for everyone and this hits a huge demographic. Great move for GSN, and with Michael Davies involved, this will probably be a quality show. The Bible is still going strong and still the number one selling-book every year. Makes perfect sense to put this on TV.
Wow, how does THIS gibe with the audience who watches “The Newlywed Game” during its ubiquitous 36 airings per day on this network? This is the channel my mother has on every time I come in the room (when it isn’t LMN or Hallmark), and I can assure you it won’t be on when some Bible-thumping hour comes on. Unless the questions are along the lines of “When Moses came down from Mt. Sinai, did his wife say the mountain looked more like her tits, her ass, or his balls?” Contestant number one? How did your bride answer that one?
Then tell your momma to turn the channel. Very simple solution. Just like I do when Glee comes on.
And what, Kathy, pray tell, are you watching during the 7:30 slot on Fox that compels you to turn the channel when “Glee” comes on? Brilliant comment — and completely off topic. (Really? You still watch TV live? How quaint!) I think the original poster was saying that his mother would NOT be watching the Bible show when it came on, hence GSN runs the risk of alienating its core audience.
Or did you really think your — oh, what’s another adjective that means “I think I’m moderately clever, but in fact, am not”? — was worth taking the time to type?
!!?H-A-L-L-E-L-U-J-A-H?!!
How about The American Porno Challenge?
Old Testament, New, or both? Big impact on the target demo.
Good point.
Jesus, can’t I flip anywhere anymore without having to be faced with a political football? I just want to watch Match Game and Pyramid reruns fer chrissake.
As long as they keep this on Sunday mornings, fine, who cares. But somehow I feel that GSN is in denial about what kinds of polarizing energies a show like this will attract. Good luck keeping up with all those online petitions, and destructive trolls in your chat forums.
The Bible is political? You’re an idiot.
When idiots try to base our laws in this country on its 2,000 year-old rules, yeah, the Bible is political.
The folks at the Game Show Network should focus more on getting the rights to broadcast more older game shows before producing any more original game shows. Maybe they could use the advertising revenue from their current game shows and create a second programming service for older game shows (including past programs produced for the Game Show Network) and use the current programming service for a mixture of current game shows and past game shows.
I almost forgot to mention that the theme of “The American Bible Challenge” reminds me of another game show called “Virtual Memory”, which was produced by the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and broadcast every Saturday at 8:30 AM (Central time) by JCTV and every Sunday at 1:30 AM by TBN.
13 th Commandment: The producers shall not do blow.
Dating in the Dark, Toddlers and Tiaras, Fear Factor donkey semen milkshake no longer look like the beginning of the end of civilization as we know it. When this business starts negotiating with god to make the holy book into the likes of Family Feud in order to shnorr some gelt, survey says, FEH.
Shame on you Amy! When did you go all gonif Gordon Gecko Greed is Good with such a farshtuckeneh idea? I would say this show should rot in H***, but that might be one of the categories….
A glick ahf dir!
Seems like this show is based on Bible knowledge with winnings helping churches and communities. Wow, what a terrible thing to do. (eye roll)
Hmmm, a Bible show that aims to help communities while Glee tries to convince little boys it is fine to be little girls. Wow.
The Bible has always been offensive and always will be. Truth; what a concept?
An open mind is a terrible thing to waste…
